I'm Glad I'm Not An Elephant.

I love the Charlie Brooker fandom, but it's terribly damaging for my confidence as a writer. The standard is simply too good. Even on the anon meme, my writing feels mediocre amongst all the anonymous brilliance; I feel guilty about taking a prompt because I'm sure someone else could fill it better, and I feel embarrassed despite the anonymity ( Read more... )

Excellent! My evil plan for easing the sting of knowing that vast amounts of great material are cut out of the broadcast is to ensure that at least one member of my flist is at every recording and provides a detailed writeup afterwards.

...it's not actually that evil, is it?

I wish my dissertations were on the complications of time-travelling sex with oneself. It is clearly my true area of expertise.

My bf posits that the time-travelling wanking thing is incest, because the genes are identical. o.O I'm not sure I agree with that, although it does sort of make sense.

And oh god, I cannot agree more about the anon meme. I mean, you saw my entry the other day! And I still feel mildly uncomfortable writing more of that prompt. D: Stupid good writers! *shakes fist half-heartedly*

EDIT: It occurs to me to wish that my dissertation was now, rather than last year. All this time travel speculation would be magical, since I did it on time travel in Pratchett's Night Watch. XD

I wouldn't call it incest, but my personal definition of 'incest' puts more emphasis on growing up with someone than on genes. Genetically, it's essentially the same as having sex with one's twin, but it doesn't have the same social factors.

I'm glad you're continuing the prompt! Fight that writer's insecurity.

And I'm not a Pratchett fan, but that sounds a very cool topic for a dissertation.

I agree with you on the incest thing. I'm not that bothered about the genetics, generally (if they're having kids, I tend to be a bit concerned, but if they're the same gender, infertile, using extremely reliable contraception, or not having that particular type of sex, that deals with that). But growing up with someone as family and then having sex with them really sounds like incest ( ... )

Night Watch really needs to be crossed over with Life on Mars somehow.

This is such an awesome idea I'm surprised it's not been done yet! There was a LoM/Discworld crossover, but I can't remember what it was about. hmm.

Mitchell is a chocolatier and Brooker a chocolate addict

I--

I didn't realise until just now that this is an AU I want in all of my fandoms.

I just thought 'how bizarre' when I read the prompt, and then the fic was actually written and I realised that it had, in fact, been the greatest idea ever.

You don't need to worry; your writing is superb! Seriously, your grasp of Charlie Brooker's voice is actually frightening.

The answer to your late-night dilemma: you would and you know it.

As long as I didn't have to talk to me or look at me then it'd be fantastic.

...

...I swear you looked too short to be Charlie Brooker in a cunning disguise when I met you, but...
