I identify greatly with this picture. D:

Me and another struggling academic type are considering running away to sea and becoming pirates, want to join?

It is certainly tempting! I suspect I'd be quite as bad at piracy as I am at focusing on my academic work, though.

We are using a pretty loose definition of "pirate". It involves drinking rum and watching bad films, only on a boat and with pirate hats on.

Even my rum-drinking skills leave much to be desired, but they're probably better than my public speaking skills, so I suppose I am up for this plan.

Oh, wait, I'd forgotten my tendency to get seasick. (I really would be a terrible pirate.)

My course is English Language and Literature! So, yes, basically: half of my course is linguistics with a focus on English. I love studying it, but at the moment the workload is a nightmare.

*hugs* You will be fine! The spirit of the Sultan shall enter you and make public speaking possible!

I misread that at first as 'the spirit of Satan'. I suppose my public speaking skills are so poor that I can't really afford to be fussy about the entity that helps me cope, but I am still quite glad that it is not to be Satan.

(...calculus coursework?)

YAY FOR WRITING ABOUT HOUSE!

Clearly it's just a matter of finding your course work's weakness *nods*

I actually feel a little better now that I've represented it as a colossus. There must be a logical way to take it down; I just need to work out what it is!

Well done for finding a way to write about House - that is most excellent.

I suppose there's a chance that I'll come to hate House after hours of analysing it, but for now I'm just happy to be able to legitimately call DVD-watching 'research'. Hooray!
