This won't do.

You know, I'm the jaded old lady of fandom who's shaking her cane at all the young 'uns, the rascals making racket and ruining the lawn. Although, since we're talking fandom, the young rascals are all covered in glitter gel, their racket is CAPS LOCKED WANK WARS, the lawn suffering from chronic nitrogen deficit thanks to the layer of splooge- ( Read more... )

Yeah, that post-Doyle thing I understood, but by now that particular explanation is wearing really thin. And yes, there's still some Wes hate, although it's more in the lines of individual people instead of mobs with pitchforks. Although that would be much more entertaining, I think.

Which is to say, I've accidentally ran across comments by people who hate Wesley, and I find myself reacting irrationally. Sigh.

I'll drink to that.

So, there's this guy named Wesley. Isn't he fine? ;)

Sadly, my own best friend is a Wes-hater, but I comfort myself with the knowledge that she knows NOTHING about the characters (despite being in the fandom for many years) because she 'ships Angel/Spike - but not in an interesting, dysfunctional kind of way, which baffles me, because if you're going to have Spangel it has to be uncomfortable and unhappy, because they're too much like competitive siblings to have a healthy relationship - and admits to stopping watching somewhere around season two, so she still sees Wes as being very one-dimensional. It makes baby Connor cry.

That's sad. Not the shipping Angel/Spike, I can actually see the allure there. Well, maybe not so much with the fluff and WAFF and violins playing on a starstruck night. Anyway, stopping at season 2 may well leave an unrounded view of Wes, although I still can't see what's so hateworthy of early AtS Wes. Not even the OMG DOYLE SUBSTITUTE!!!1

Such an appropriate icon you have ;) I want to make my own batch of Cordy icons though, gotta have more of that lurve.

I'm all over Spangelus like white on rice - I mean, it's canon, for Pete's sake - but Spangel just bothers me because no one writes it accurately (that I've seen.) There's something to be said about two people who can't stand each other falling into bed together (my first fandom was Red Dwarf, my first OTP Rimmer/Lister, and if there's a better example of two people who can't stand each other I haven't found it) but two people with over a hundred years of history, during which they were never able to stand one another, and only had sex when neither of them had a soul or any kind of morals? There ain't gonna be any damn fluff to be had there. That said, I can possibly see Spangel H/C, post-NFA - they're both different people now, with more common ground, and they're pretty much all each other has got ( ... )

What you said.

Also, I never bought the whole Angel/Cordy thing. It just felt so forced, it made me uncomfortable. When you have to make up a word in a fake demon language to convince your audience that two people should OMG totally be doing it, IT'S NOT WORKING.

And I totally agree.
