The Plane Crash
Well, there was the first time, of course, when Evan crashed his plane and Jack came riding to his rescue on a motorcycle, pulled him out of the wreckage and then spent an entire weekend wining and dining and making love to him in his hotel room. That was the first time. And it had made quite the impression on Evan. He couldn’t help but wonder if Jack had been even remotely impressed, or if he was just a feather in a very feathersome cap.
The Crossover Mission
Then there was the day he met the Daedalus on the pier and who should come striding down the gangway, long wool coat, suspenders and all, but one smiling Jack Harkness. He had managed to finagle himself detached duty from Torchwood to do a tour at the SGC. He apparently had a list of critters to investigate, believed to be Pegasus in origin. Tossing formality and regulations out the window, Jack had swept Evan into his arms and kissed him, completely outing him to anyone who didn’t know his preferences. But Evan didn’t care, Jack had come to him, as he had hinted he might.
The Other Crossover Mission
All good things come to an end and eventually, Jack went back to Earth, leaving behind a heartbroken Evan Lorne. He hated long distance romances, and Milky Way to Pegasus was about as long distance as one could get. When his leave time came came at Christmas time, Evan headed to Cardiff. He spent his leave having the time of his life chasing critters that had escaped through the “rift” there. Well, critter wrangling and making love to Jack. And Jack and Ianto. They tried to talk him into leaving the SGC and taking a job with Torchwood, but he wasn’t ready to take that step.
After the Children of Earth
He got a letter from Gwen in a mail run from Earth, marked and re-marked with multiple forwarding addresses. Reading it, his heart nearly broke. Ianto was dead, Torchwood had been destroyed and Jack had hied off for parts unknown, grieving for Ianto and his part in events. He sent his contact information to Gwen in an email, as well as his condolences on the loss of her team. He was shocked to walk into a tavern on Bavelos and see Jack Harkness sitting on a stool, apparently waiting for him. Silently, Jack toasted him and slid over a glass of rotgut. They did very little talking, in the room at the inn of that trading town. There was a lot of crying. Evan would always associate Bavelos with tears.
Rescue Paybacks
There was a loud grinding noise in the Gate Room, and Evan ran out onto the balcony to see what had caused it. A blue Police Box had materialized at the base of the stairs. Waving guards into place, Evan slowly made his way down the staircase. The door opened and a young man, wearing a striped shirt, a bow tie and a red fez poked his head out.
“Oh, hello. I’m looking for Evan.”
“Uhm, I’m Evan.”
“Oh, good. Gwen said I’d find you here. Hop along, come on. Jack needs your help,” he chirped and disappeared back inside the box.
Evan approached the doors and peered in. He blinked in surprise and jumped back when the man appeared again and grabbed his arm. “Come on, come on. I hate Asuran architecture, it gives the Tardis the willies. Let’s go, you’ll be back before breakfast.”
“Uhm...”
“Jack. Needs. You.”
That settled it. Evan turned and shouted to Sheppard, “I’ll be back before breakfast. If I’m not, feel free to courts martial me, Colonel.”
He stepped into the box. Which, as we all know, is bigger on the inside. And never really managed to anyone back in time for breakfast.
The End
or The Beginning (there’s wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff going on)
