Intoxication - Chapter 5
Aiba was right. He was always right, for some reason. And Nino knew that he should've listened to him. That he should've been careful about Ohno. But the damage has been done already...
"Nino," Sho waved his hands in front of Nino's face. Nino was staring blankly into the distance. "Hey, you alright? Snap out of it."
Nino blinked. "Huh? What?"
"Really, what's up with you today? It's like you're a ghost already."
More like I saw one. Nino wanted to say. Just a while ago, he'd seen one; a ghost from his past. A guy named Ohno Satoshi. The guy that he and Aiba promised to never talk about nor mention his name. Ever. And worst of all: Ohno Satoshi works in the hotel. The Kitagawa Hotel of all the places a person like him could work at.
"Honestly, Nino; if you keep this up, I suggest you take a day off or something." Sho says.
"I'm fine." Nino groaned.
"No, you're not." Sho crossed his arms. "Look, just tell me what's bothering you."
"I said I'm fine." Nino covers his face with his hands.
Sho sighed. "Fine, if you say so. But don't blame me if ever you pass out during work." He then went on and continued doing his business.
Nino does feel bad for Sho, since he was just trying to help him. He was always like that for some reason: even if you try to hide your sadness, Sho would easily find out about it. It was as if he could read his mind.
But, Sho wasn't the right person to talk to; it's none of his business. Aiba too, even if he knows everything about his relationship with Ohno. Telling Aiba about it might open pandora's box. Nino didn't want to tell anyone about it, not even Jun. Especially Jun.

It's already 9pm. Nino's shift had ended. He takes off his uniform and changes into his clothes at the employee room. He then hears his phone buzzing from the pocket of his coat and takes it.
'I might come home a little later. Sorry :(' Jun messaged him.
'It's alright. I'll just eat whatever's in the fridge.'
'If there IS anything in the fridge. LOL Buy some food just in case :)'
Nino cracked a smile while reading. He hasn't smiled for a long time today. 'Got it.' He finally replies.
Nino goes out of the hotel; it was quite chilly outside. He could feel that the thin cloth of his coat had gone cold. I should've worn another sweater. Nino sighed.
He then walks across the street to the convenience store. He takes two packs of ramen from the shelves and goes to the counter.
And then, he saw it again. The blue scent.
Nino's body had froze once again. He then turns to his side: Ohno was standing right beside him, at the other cashier. His hair now was cut short. His scarf almost covered half of his profile; his then youthful face now had wrinkles. Looking at him, he seemed to look like a totally different person.
"Excuse me, sir," The cashier in front of Nino said.
"Ah, yes." Nino, startled, directs his attention to the cashier.
"That'll be 64.80 Yen." Nino then takes his wallet out and gives her the money. "Here's your change, sir." She then gives him a bunch of coins. He then turns back to where Ohno was, but he had already gone out of the store.
"Ah, he forgot his change." The other cashier said.
"I'll give it to him." Nino suddenly blurted out. The cashier hesistated at first, but gave the coins to him.
Nino quickly went out of the convenience store. Fortunately, he immediately sees Ohno, who is standing by the traffic light post. Nino was about to step forward but he came to a halt.
He didn't need to do this. Furthermore, this is Ohno-- a man whom he has in fact a grudge on. He planned and promised to himself long ago that he would never have any connection with him again. And yet, here he is about to talk to Ohno after so many years. He insisted to give Ohno his change, so there's no turning back now.
As he takes a step by step forward, a lot of things had crossed his mind: What if he doesn't remember me? Or maybe he does? Also, what should I say?
Do you remember me?
Hey, Ohno, it's me. Nino.
Why the heck are you here?
Aren't you going to say sorry?
He had no idea how to approach him.
The traffic lights then flash green in a split-second. And Ohno is about to cross the street. "Wait!" Nino then rushes towards Ohno and grabs hold of his wrist.
Everything was slow motion at that moment. Nino could clearly hear his heart beating out of him. Ohno then turns around to face him. Their eyes have now met. Nino didn't know what the look on Ohno's eyes meant, but by just looking at them, he knew for sure it was indeed Ohno.
"Um," Ohno then uttered. "Yes?" He raised his eyebrows.
He doesn't recognize me. "You-" He stuttered. "Your change..." He then shows him his hand with the coins.
"Ah," Ohno gaped at him. "I forgot." He chuckled as his takes the coins from Nino. "I'm sorry; thank you." He then bows.
"It's nothing." Nino averted his eyes. Not only has Ohno changed physically, but to Nino's surprise, his personality had also changed. He was more approachable and much more nicer compared to the way he was before. "You work at the hotel, right?" Nino then asked, trying to break the ice.
"Why yes." Ohno's face lit up. "I'm in Room Service. How did you know?"
"I'm a porter; I saw you earlier as I was passing by the hallway."
"Really? Well, it's nice to meet you then!" Ohno laughed. "I'm Ohno Satoshi. What's your name?"
The words rang in Nino's head. A question which Nino hoped he wouldn't ask, yet he knew it was inevitable. "Oh, my name." He says with his voice getting hoarse. "Well, my name is--" A melody then interrupted him.
"Oh, sorry," Ohno then gets his phone from his pocket. "Excuse me." He then answers the call. "Hello?"
Nino then had a sigh of relief. It felt as if he had forgotten how breathe.
"Okay, I'll be right there... Okay, bye." Ohno then puts his phone down. "Sorry about that, I got to go."
"It's fine." Nino said. "I'm...Ninomiya."
"Ninomiya." Ohno repeats. "Such a common name," he said. "I'm not really good at memorizing names. But hopefully I'll remember yours." He then chuckes. "Alright, see you around, Ninomiya." He then crosses the street in a hurry.
Ohno's scarf was swaying against the wind. Nino's gaze then follows Ohno until he loses sight of him.

Nino was sitting on the couch, slurping the ramen which he had bought earlier and watching tv. When he heard a knocking from the door, he quickly gets up and goes to open the door. "I'm home." Jun gives him a wide smile, showing his teeth.
"Welcome back." Nino replies. Jun then kisses him on the cheek.
"Gosh, it's gotten a bit chilly today, don't you think?" Jun says as he hangs his coat on the coat rack.
"Yeah," Nino let out a laugh. "Tell me about it."
"Also, sorry I came back late. I suddenly bumped into a college friend of mine and she invited me to eat out with her other friends."
"That's fine." Nino goes back to sit on the sofa.
"And how about you?" Jun then asks, sitting down beside him. "How's your day?"
His chest began to ache again. He can't tell Jun about it-- about his condition, and not even about Ohno. He just can't. "So far so good," he said, forcing a smile. "I also bumped into an old friend of mine at work."
"Oh, that's great!" Jun's eyes beamed. That smile on his face, it felt like an arrow went through Nino's heart.
"I'm glad you're doing alright now." Jun said. He then rests his head on Nino's shoulder. "If ever you have problems with work again, you can always talk about it with me, okay?"
That's right. He is the only person whom Nino can tell his problems to. But at the same time, he's also the person he can't tell his secrets to. The thought tears Nino apart. He has no choice but to keep it to himself.
"Okay." Nino says, putting his hand over Jun's.
