From my dvd collection alone

Aug 07, 2011 12:56

After yesterday's impromptu double Pride and Prejudice event, I realized we could have similar days with the following stories:
Sense and Sensibility
Emma
Persuasion
At this moment, a triple Jane Eyre-a-thon, but potentially we could watch five different versions.

Yes, I can see your looks of either gasping disbelief or utter admiration. :D

movies, jane austen, p&p, bronte, jane eyre, s&s

I think if we lived in the same country we would probably be best friends or something...

P.S. Speaking of a million adaptations of Jane Eyre, my husband found this article in the Sydney Morning Herald. I thought you might like to read it :)

"If there has never been a definitive movie Jane Eyre, there has never been a truly rotten one. Even the sentimental 1996 Franco Zeffirelli version, with William Hurt embarrassingly miscast as a Rochester who is more a mild eccentric than a brooding, Byronic type, has its moments."

I beg to differ. I think that one is horrifically bad.

YAY you can go see the new one!

I love Jane Eyre. I have only seen one movie and it was on PBS. I think with Timothy Dalton. I really loved it. :)

I would like to see some newer versions.

Jane Eyre is my favorite book. I've seen 5 different movies, but my favorite is the 2006 version. Not sure I liked the Timothy Dalton one. Don't think I hated it at least.

Well, two of them are William Hurt's and Timothy Dalton's versions. Those get hidden in the cabinet, not stored with the rest of my dvds. I don't know why I don't just get rid of them.

New JE next week, and maybe rent the Ciaran Hinds one sometime.

OoOo burn!

I think I saw the W. Hurt one on Netflix Instant Play lol. Must revisit with "fresh", aka book-JE eyes.

Every so often I want to try the W. Hurt one again. I disliked it so much from such an early point (when Jane was still young) that I know it's not going to get better.

JE-book love!
