...OK, and now that I keep looking at it, all the big branches really look like Dr. Seuss-like robotic arms with heads and teeth that could reach out and bite off some of the other languages at any time...

Hmmm... in a way, that kind of happened throughout history, in fact.

I think it popped up on Boing Boing.
Don't forget that places like Indonesia, with 400+languages, throws the the scale off a bit.
