Wonderful drabble, m'dear! I like Jim acknowledging how he's turned a blind eye to too many things (hence the bitter laughter at the offer of a blindfold), his 'Shirley' thought, and closing his eyes after all. He's delightfully human and someone the rest of us can identify with. :)
