I changed my LJ to one of the autumn looks offered here, but now I look at it, I kinda hate it and will likely change it again. Pretty much every option they offer is blah, but some are more blah than others.

Sapphire & Steel squee. As expected, getting a chance to check out this series has indeed been a lot of fun -- and I've just barely made ( Read more... )

omg Sapphire and Steel is so amazing. and yes, one or two Assignments will probably last you the weekend...I've heard it said that marathoning ruins it a little because part of the fun is the epic suspense and not knowing what's going on until next week, but screw that, I need to know what Time and ghosts are trying to pull. I always loved the idea of Time being a conscious, malevolent entity...and now photographs creep me out a little.

Isn't that freaky? I love it, though, as that's part of my fascination with old buildings, anything that's been around awhile. I always wonder who was there, what did they do, what traces are still lingering. So a show that deals with things like that is right up my alley!

Butting in here to exclaim how, OMG, totally up your alley this show is in that regard. And what you said about how it "strikes a nicely creepy note without a lot of flash and dazzle" -- that's so well-put. I'm amazed at how they're able to create such an atmosphere of supsense with so very little to work with, budget- and effects-wise.

I love how in one episode the monsters are spots of light. That's practically no-budget. No CGI, no stop-motion animation, no animatronics, nobody in a monster suit...just grab a few flashlights.

Can I just mention that back in the day Sapphire & Steel was marketed as a *childrens* show, and shown at 7pm in the evening to cater for the 8-16 age group! I remember watching it and it scaring the life out of me, it was such a deeply unsettling show at times, especially the story set on the railway!!
In fact, even after all these years of watching gory, 'scary' shows like X Files, Supernatural etc, I still find some of the S & S creepier:)
Have fun!
