I'm going to have to see it. Despite not being a huge trekkie (I watch it when there's nothing else on, the rare times I do watch tv). It looked very interesting. :)

I also must ask: Did they actually construct NCC-1701 on terra firma, and if so, does the movie explain why?

They don't explain why in the movie itself, but the behind-the-scenes explanation has something to do with calibrating the ship's more delicate machinery within the same gravity well that its artificial gravity will be designed to simulate.

I would definitely not be against the idea of more ST movies if they're going to be as good as this one.
