Overlay Boxes and You!

Jan 08, 2010 00:21

This is a tutorial on how to make/fix overlay boxes so that the overlays will remain attached to the body of your sim until they die or you remove them. The original technique/tutorial is Morague's work. However, all over the internet...high and low...every site I checked, there was no real conclusion as to how to make the overlays STAY. Yeah...I'm pretty sure this tute is the opposite of a stress reliever, so you might want to wait a bit on that. XD

Yeah, I didn't mean it because doing this stuff is necessarily hard...just easy to make a little boo-boo and get frustrated. Remember, I ended up with no faces last time, and I already knew what I was doing at that point!

O.o; I suddenly have much more respect for those who make custom content. *in awe*

Well, this is starting to lean heavily into modding in some aspects. It's a whole different skillset than making a nice texture or making a mesh. Nearly everything else is more being creative and making things work visually...and then Bodyshop or the Object Workshop put together your package guts.

Even if this tutorial seems daunting, I don't want it to scare you off CC making completely. XD

I already thanked you over at GOS, but I can't stop thinking how amazing you are for posting such a great tutorial.
Maybe I'm now (or in the near future)able to do my own overlay boxes.
Thank you again and again...

You're very welcome! I do hope someone out there ends up surprising me with new tattoos someday~

Not that I don't use what I make, but it's not as shiny after you've stared at it for a long time. XD

I found this post several months back, but have just now found the time to properly comment. Thank you so much for this!!! (This is SpaceDoll, by the way.) I was looking for a way to finally fix my overlays, when I not only found a tutorial, BUT THEY ARE ALREADY FIXED!!! Sorry for the shouting, but this is just too exciting. You have done so so so much work! Thank you so much. Also, if you are still into building overlay boxes, and have some requests or examples of what you want, I would totally be willing to do the arty half. Again, thank you so much!

I'm glad that you're glad! I used your boxes, as well as some of the bodyhair boxes, quite a bit, so I figured I'd put up the fixed versions to save everyone else time and hassle. I actually haven't gotten around to doing the box with the bright flash of yours...it's a time-consuming process and too easy to make mistakes. -_- But I've done the others~

I think at the time I finally figured everything out, you hadn't logged in MTS or GoS for awhile, otherwise I would've messaged you.

I'm always interested in collabs, though I've got a bit of a backlog at the moment, I agreed to collab with Trapping on some Sims 3 tattoos and she did her end of the bargain, and I need to finish the box!

I don't really have any specific examples of what I'd want in a box. I'd love to have sleeves, any sleeves, because the mapping involved around shoulders and arms I haven't quite figured out, even if I've gotten competant at retexturing hairs. I'm just a big fan of the art of tattooing in general, though I don't have any personally, so I like a ( ... )

I know I'm a little late (hihi), but I was borned and I turned back to TS2. And I discovered that I had missed a lot of wonderfull things !!!
Your tatoos are all beautiful and it make me want to do some on my own ... Your tutorial is perfect (the begining at least, because I'm still in the process of reading it) and I'm diging myself in it.
Thanks again !

P.S : I thought you were looking for the "bodynudesun-tan_txtr" but I can't find the post anymore. If you still need it, I can get them...

I'm glad you like them!

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the suntan textures (face, body, and then I don't know if there are differences for the genders), if it wasn't too much trouble. I just can't make any promises on when I'd get around to doing anything with it. I haven't had...the patience, I guess, is a good way to put it...to deal with overlay boxes lately.

I've got a half completed one of my own, and two more worth of textures, and that's just tattoo stuff. The suntan texture was part of another idea kicking around in my head...at some point, someone had extracted the tattoo/paint texture from Castaway Stories, and if I had the tan textures...some sort of alternative set of overlays, more special effects for stories. But I obviously haven't gotten past a half-baked idea.

I tried to fix Morague's anatomy overlays using this tutorial, but I ran into the first problem you mentioned. No pause and the overlays don't appear.

Do you have any idea what might have caused that?

Late, horrible reply here, but it's almost always an error changing the values somewhere. :( And since there's so many to check it's almost always easier to just start over, since you'd essentially have to go back from the beginning to recheck every step again.

Definitely why I suggest doing one texture first and testing it out in game before tackling all of them.

Thanks. I managed to get skins with nipples myself since then.
