The Ultimate Sims Genetics Tutorial! Chapter 4

Okay, so it's time to learn how to make your CC genetics behave the way you want them to. First of all, you'll need to get a few things in order:
- Find the genetics you want to modify--if you have NL or later, you can use subfolders, and it may be helpful to get all the hair in one folder, skintones in another, eyes in another at the least- ( Read more... )

So that's what "binning hair" means!

I was always too intimidated to ask.

I don't know if it's been updated to fix this, but last I knew, if you tried to "delete" ages with the WW...or only have an elder texture attached to one package in a family, all the program did was hide the textures. Your in-game menus wouldn't be cluttered, but the files would still have those extra textures and be bigger than they needed to be.

I had to rebin a lot of hair that I downloaded that were "extra ages removed." It's not a big deal if you want a quick method for your own use, but if you make hair textures, you might want to take a peek at your files when you finish and make sure they turn out the way you'd like.

I get liking the interface. I've actually moved back to the WW to townify clothes since it was fixed so it doesn't break the YA townified clothes anymore. AND I can batch townify, which is handy for accessories with multiple ages attached to them. :D

Still use SimPE for my genetics, since the WW doesn't do all I would like to do.

I have written a quick and easy hair binner that DOES remove unnecessary textures instead of just hiding them. You can find it on MTS. It is also much faster than Wardrobe Wrangler.

I forgot to say, my hair binner also does genetics, townifies, familifies, and if you're doing eyebrows, can set eyebrow gender to male/female/unisex.

I would be very pleased if you took a look at it, especially if you had any suggestions for improvements or changes.

Thanks for this tutorial and your thoroughness.

I went to download the plug-in since I don't seem to have the color binning tool and it seems to be for an older version of simPE. Does that matter? I have version 0.72xxx and the plug-in at Theo's Shack is for version 0.63.

Ha, well I'm glad that it worked for you, and you didn't have to wait as long as it took for me to reply for a solution. XD

I've been playing with the genetics of skins and eyes (and they're all townified now as well), and thus I wanted to do hair. This means a LOT of work, though. *sighs* But since I want to play the game RIGHT, things have to be fixed. Thank you for this tutorial. :)
