Summary: One rainy night after a hard day at work Sanada gets a ride from an old teammate - Which turns out to be a set up that turned out to be one of the best things that could have happened to Sanada in ages
Notes: ...n/a

If anything had ever surprised Sanada Genichirou it was the fact that the government had given one Niou Masaharu a license to drive.

More surprising was the fact that Niou had recognized his old vice-captain when he passed him and had pulled over to offer him a ride.

Perhaps it wasn’t that surprising as the weather had suddenly turned from a perfect sunny day into a downpour of rain within minutes of Sanada leaving the offices. Sanada had taken the newspaper he had bought to read and had turned it into a makeshift umbrella as he had left his still trusty hat at home that morning. The newsprint really wasn’t helping to keep his head dry though.

Despite the fact that Sanada wasn’t sure why Niou had a driver’s license, he accepted the ride gratefully. It had been way too long since he had seen anyone from the old Rikkai team. And getting a lift from an old teammate was definitely better than getting soaked to the bone in the downpour.

“Fancy running into you out here in this nasty weather.” Niou said, smirking a little. He hadn’t asked Sanada where he was heading or where his home was. Niou turned into the traffic, and headed out of the city.

Sanada frowned once he realized Niou what was doing.

“You do know I still live in the city?” he asked. Niou just smirked.

“Still don’t know how to relax, do you, Sanada?” Niou replied. Sanada put on his grumpiest face. He had always hated it whenever any of the team had tried to get him to relax. He still did. Niou chuckled and turned the car down a side road.

Sanada just shook his head. Perhaps he’d end up home this evening, perhaps he wouldn’t. He shook out the paper and turned to the sports section. Niou glanced over , but reassuringly didn’t take his eyes from the road for very long. “You wrote that?” he asked, noticing the name attached to one of the larger articles, remembering reading it over earlier that morning.

“Yes.” Sanada stated, glancing over his printed work. He still held himself to high standards, even when his editor disagreed with some of his work. Sanada folded the wet newspaper back up after re-reading his own article and settled it in his lap. He smoothed his hair back down to something resembling decent. He turned to stare out the window, frowning at the rain.

“Hey, you know the rain will stop soon enough.” Niou said, turning down a rather rough road with few other vehicles around.

“Where are you taking me, anyway?” Sanada finally asked. Niou grinned, not answering yet. The road became wetter with the steadily falling water that was getting heavier.

“You’ll see.” Niou said at last. It didn’t reassure Sanada in the slightest.

“I don’t trust you.” Sanada said flatly.

“I know you don’t. Though right now you’re really at my mercy.” Niou laughed at that. “And I intend for you to remain that way…at least for a few hours.”

Sanada shivered.

“What are you up to, Niou?”

Niou stared straight ahead at the road before them. The rain had finally lightened down to a drizzle. They drove along the road in silence for almost an hour before either of them said another word.

“Have you heard from Yukimura lately?” Niou asked, out of the blue. Out of the gang of regulars their senior year of junior high school, Sanada had been the closest to their “child of god.” No one had seen or heard from him since graduation. At least, no one that Sanada was still in contact with.

Sanada glared out of the corner of his eye. Of all people, he surely would have been the one that would have tagged along, reporting on the former junior high tennis star, but none of his sources had ever seen Yukimura on the professional circuit. Sanada had figured if Yukimura wanted to be found, he would let it slip to someone who would let it slip to all his old friends but years had passed and there had been no news.

“I guess not. It’s almost too bad.”

Sanada laid his head back against the head rest, closing his eyes. It had been an exhausting day at work, and all he really wanted to do was go home and go to bed. He didn’t want to be reminded of old friends, old captains who had left him in the dark on their whereabouts. Whatever Yukimura was doing, it was obvious that Sanada wasn’t wanted - that Yukimura didn’t want him to be a part of it. And Sanada wanted to respect that.

“Niou.” Sanada said ominously, trying to get him to understand that imposing himself on Yukimura’s life again was not exactly something that Sanada would be thrilled to do.

Niou turned down another somewhat dark road, the rain and the sinking sun making it hard to see. “Did you ever kiss him?” Niou asked, a teasing tone to his voice.

Sanada resisted the temptation to backhand Niou - after all, he was driving the car- and shifted a bit uncomfortably in his seat. Niou took the silence as a confirmation to his suspicions. “Ever go further than that with him?”

Sanada froze. They were teenagers. They were exploring. It was not that he was exactly proud of it, but Yukimura had said it would be okay. And if Yukimura had said it was okay, then it would be okay. Sanada had always trusted in that.

Niou chuckled. “You’re still easy to rile up,” he said, shifting gears, both of the car and his mental ones. “I have a place just over the next hill - I share an apartment. I’m sure my roommate won’t mind if you come up for dinner.”

“Niou, are you trying to seduce me?” Sanada finally asked, thinking this was a rather odd way to do so but struggling to come up with another explanation. .

Niou laughed as he swung into a parking space. “Why would I do that?” he said, opening the door and looking up at the now darkened sky. “Glad that rain is over.” He led the way into the building, Sanada following behind him. Sure, just some old friends having dinner. Nothing much to worry about.

That said, why was Niou pestering Sanada - especially about things years past, and especially about Yukimura. Niou stopped in front of a door, jiggling his key in the lock.

“I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.” Niou just headed in the door, Sanada following right behind him, and smelling the dinner that was currently simmering. Niou’s roommate could apparently cook.

Sanada saw a slender form moving into the kitchen, just out of sight as he finished removing his shoes. Niou waved him on into the kitchen, where there had been an extra place at the table set for him. Sanada frowned, having the feeling that he might have been set up. Considering the Trickster, it was one of a few possibilities.

“Sit down and eat already, Genichirou.” Sanada blinked a little, coming out of his more than suspicious thoughts, staring at the other occupant of the small apartment.

“Renji?” Sanada stared in disbelief.

“We’ll talk later. For now, eat.” Yanagi insisted, placing a bowl in front of his guest, and then in front of Niou.

Now Sanada knew he’d been set up. He sighed, but was grateful for the hot meal after having been rained on and had faced the horrors of Niou’s driving. He figured he might as well make the best of the situation.

Niou proceeded to scarf down the dinner, as the two former best friends ate more slowly and quietly. Yanagi slid a piece of paper over to Sanada once the bowls were empty of food before the silence could get too awkward.

Sanada frowned. “What’s this?” he asked.

“Read it. I think you’ll find it very…interesting.” Yanagi replied, standing up, and motioning for Niou to help him clean up after dinner.

Sanada unfolded the paper, staring at the handwriting and looking confused.

The letter, though addressed to Yanagi, was not exactly for him. Tears had streaked the ink, making the letter hard to read, but Sanada made out every word, even if it took him a few extra seconds to do so.

Yanagi had returned to sit across from Sanada, staying silent until Sanada was ready to speak. Sanada lifted his eyes from the letter to his friend. “This isn’t a joke?”

“Even Masaharu couldn’t pull this off, Genichirou. It’s really from Seiichi.” Yanagi said, leaning forward in his chair. “You should go to him. He’s still in Japan.”

Sanada stared at Yanagi. “Why didn’t he tell me this himself?” he asked, not exactly sure why Yukimura would keep Yanagi informed of his whereabouts, but not him.

Yanagi shrugged. “You know how he can be, Genichirou. Besides, he knows I would find him if I really wanted to. But he’s sounding rather lonely. I’m only going to offer this once - I’ll take you to him, but what you do after that…well, it’s up to you.” Yanagi nodded at the letter. “I think he’s spoken loud and clearly for what he wants, even if it was delivered by an indirect party.”

Niou joined them again. “It’s too good of an offer to pass up, isn’t it?” Sanada frowned. “Ah, I’ll even let Renji drive you there. I’m sure you two could use the time to catch up or something.” Niou laughed. “Hey, you and Buchou belong together. Trust me, Renji and I couldn’t resist a little matchmaking.” He winked at Sanada.

Sanada sighed. There was no way he could go against two masterminds such as them.

Yanagi glanced up at Niou. “There’s no sense pushing this right now, Masaharu.” he said, turning back to Sanada. “You’re welcome to sleep on it, if you’d prefer to first.”

“Ah…I would like the chance to think about it first.” Sanada said. Yanagi nodded.

“We have a spare futon, so you needn’t go home. It’s too far anyway.” Yanagi said, vanishing for a moment as he dragged the cushion to the living room. Sanada just nodded as the two headed for their own beds. He sat down, thinking about this idea. It was for Yukimura - Yukimura who missed him, who had given him his first kiss many years ago, who had actually been his first sexual experience with another person…

Sanada lay down on the futon, closing his eyes, wondering if it was too late. Outside, a flash of lightning heralded a storm. The weather had changed rather suddenly again, yet it certainly reflected Sanada’s current thoughts on the situation. Yukimura was a fool to wait around for him. He couldn’t even bother to contact Sanada himself, why would he bother with Yanagi?

Sleep was not exactly coming to Sanada as he lay in the middle of the living room floor. Too many thoughts were circling through his mind, and the thunderstorm outside wasn’t helping matters any.

“Have you slept at all?” A concerned, yet sleepy voice asked him. From the height of the shadowed face, it had to be Yanagi.

“Ah…I haven’t.” Sanada admitted from his place on the floor. He sat up, blinking a little as Yanagi turned on a lamp. Sanada looked up at him, pulling his legs to his chest. “Do you think going to him would be the right thing to do?”

Yanagi paused for a second, trying to formulate an answer that wouldn’t hurt. “Genichirou, only you know if you think it’s the right thing to do. You loved him, right? If you still do, I think you would be doing the right thing. I’ve honestly had many relationships throughout the years. In the end, the right thing is what you believe is right.”

Sanada mulled that over. “Renji,” he began, rising from the floor. “We leave now.”

He was already pulling his shirt back on over his shoulders and buttoning it up, tucking it haphazardly into his dress slacks.

Yanagi stared at Sanada, before nodding in understanding.

“Let me get dressed.” Not ten minutes later Yanagi reappeared in a sweater and a pair of jeans, and was twirling Niou’s car keys on his index finger. Outside, the storm was breaking, and the sun was beginning to rise.

Sanada paused before entering the little car again. It was a new day full of new promises.

One of those promises, Sanada swore to himself, was to make Yukimura his again.

Yanagi was sitting in the driver’s seat, waiting for Sanada. “Genichirou, let’s go.” he said quietly, knowing Sanada would hear him. Sanada nodded and sat down in the cramped seat. Yanagi put the car in gear and headed out of the city.

Sanada stared out the window, vaguely noting the direction they were traveling, but thinking more about what he would say as he approached his former lover.

“Genichirou?” Yanagi brought the other man out of his thoughts.

“I was thinking of what I was going to say to him.”

“I’m sure you’ll say the right thing.” Yanagi reassured him as he turned down a road that wasn’t exactly a smooth ride for a small car.

“He really ended up in the middle of nowhere…” Sanada commented, staring at the trees and fields that they went past.

“Not exactly. He said living away from the city was good for his soul. You haven’t seen some of the paintings he’s sold recently, have you? Of course you haven’t.” Yanagi shook his head. “I’ve heard that he’s becoming one of the most celebrated of this generation’s artists, even though he lives as a hermit.”

Sanada was surprised to hear this, but hid his shock.

The trip was shorter than Sanada expected. Yanagi pulled the car up in front of a door. They looked at each other for a long moment.

“I programmed my number into your phone last night. Call me if you need a ride back to the city.” Yanagi said at last. Sanada nodded, stepping out of the car. “I wish you luck, Genichirou.”

Sanada took a deep breath, trusting that Yanagi hadn’t just driven him out to the middle of nowhere in order to just let him die out here amongst the wild animals. Sanada waved at Yanagi, knowing that one of his best friends would never do that to him. That appeared to satisfy Yanagi as he pulled away, leaving Sanada to stare at the simple house.

Sanada didn’t know how long he’d been standing there when the door to the house opened. Yukimura looked a bit more frazzled, and definitely more rugged than he had years ago. There was a hollowness to his eyes as he stepped outside, that he tried to hide behind overly large sunglasses. Yukimura looked up and stared at the man standing just beyond his doorway.

It had to be a mirage. There wasn’t any way that Sanada Genichirou would be standing on his doorstep, not here, not where he had retreated after everyone had gone their own separate ways. Yukimura’s breath hitched as he slowly approached the other man that he didn’t actually believe was standing there in front of him.

Sanada stood still as Yukimura approached him, everything that he had planned on saying suddenly sounding corny or strained or just wrong at this point. Yukimura dropped the tote of art supplies he was carrying and started running to Sanada, wrapping his arms around the larger man. “I thought I was seeing things…” Yukimura whispered, rising up on his toes and kissing Sanada. Sanada was shocked by this, but it was feeling right. Sanada fell back into the feelings he had years ago, the feelings that had never really faded.

Sanada got over his shock and pulled back from the kiss. “Yukimura…” he said, feeling the day’s budding heat on his back.

Yukimura smiled, and pulled his shades off his face, revealing his shining eyes. “I…thought…” Yukimura stuttered a bit. Sanada reached out and brushed Yukimura’s hair away from his face.

“Don’t say it.” Sanada said, still overwhelmed.

Yukimura nodded, smiling. “Where are my manners, please come in.” he said, taking Sanada’s hand and not taking no as an answer and leading him into the little house. Yukimura just smiled and bypassed the other rooms and pulled Sanada into the bedroom.

Yukimura pushed Sanada down onto the bed, working at Sanada’s shirt buttons, kissing the other man desperately. Sanada was quite dazed by it, but thought nothing of it. At least not until Yukimura’s hand was trying to open his pants up for removal.

:”Yukimura…” The end came out as a groan as Yukimura found Sanada’s cock and stroked it very lightly, but enough to arouse Sanada. Sanada was suddenly rather conscious of what was going on, and pushed Yukimura back.. Yukimura frowned.

“What’s wrong?” Yukimura asked, confusion and sadness deepening the blue of his eyes. Sanada chuckled softly, sliding his hand under Yukimura’s shirt. It had been too long since Sanada had felt like this with another person. It was obvious that their feelings from the past had never really diminished between them. The teasing, the insistence were the things that had drawn him to Yukimura in the first place all those years ago.

“You’re not naked.” he said, sliding the shirt over Yukimura’s head, leaning up to kiss Yukimura’s now exposed chest. Yukimura relaxed under Sanada, not as concerned as before.

Yukimura grinned. “Maybe I wanted to play a little…It’s been such a long time, hasn’t it?” Yukimura said, hope shining in his eyes as he pushed Sanada’s arms up over his head, effectively stopping him from stripping Yukimura any more. Yukimura kissed a trail from Sanada’s groin up his abdomen and over his chest. Sanada’s breath caught every time Yukimura stop to nibble or suck on a random piece of skin. Yukimura grinned as he saw Sanada’s discarded necktie. Yukimura grabbed it and tied Sanada’s hands together over his head. “That makes it much easier.” Yukimura said, focusing his attention again on Sanada’s body.

Sanada moaned in pleasure. He hadn’t been sure what he expected when he had came out here, but sex hadn’t really been at the top of the list. “Yuki-!” Sanada was silenced as Yukimura placed his lips over Sanada’s.

Yukimura savored the taste of the kiss - Sanada still tasted of the stew he’d had the night before, mixed with morning breath. Yukimura was used to it though, it was a familiar flavor. Yukimura pulled back, admiring the still built body Sanada had. “I know it’s been years…but if you’re going to moan anything…moan my name.”

Sanada groaned an nodded. It had been too long, and his polite manor had taken over, but now that he knew it was still alright, Sanada hissed out, groaning as Yukimura nipped and kissed patterns all over Sanada’s body before licking a path up Sanada’s erect penis, then around it before taking it into his mouth.

Sanada gasped, a hiss of “Seiichi!” escaping his lips. Yukimura grinned around the cock he was sucking, and looked up at Sanada, a mix of lust and love in his eyes. There was no warning as Sanada released himself into Yukimura’s mouth, and Yukimura looking like the cat that ate the cream.

Yukimura swallowed, looking up at his lover. “Would you like to be untied for the next part?” Yukimura asked, smiling sweetly.

Sanada just stared at Yukimura, who chuckled and released Sanada’s hands. “I didn’t think you’d be so willing.” Yukimura said as he tossed the tie away.

Sanada looked away and blushed a little. “I came all the way up here because I still love you. Why wouldn’t I be willing?” he said, pulling Yukimura down on the bed next to him as both of them worked quickly to remove the rest of Yukimura’s clothing.

“Because I left rather suddenly? Because I was selfish?” Yukimura said, looking rather sad.

“You’re still Seiichi.” Sanada said, kissing Yukimura hard. “You never change.” Yukimura sighed softly, letting Sanada explore his body now.

“Genichirou?” he said quietly, shivering and shaking a little under Sanada’s rough, slightly chapped lips.

“If you didn’t want it, you wouldn’t have gone to all this trouble.” Sanada said,

Yukimura laughed. “It’s not that…” he said, squirming a little…”You’re tickling me!” he said, trying to wriggle out of Sanada’s embrace. Sanada backed away, and smiled a little.

“I forgot where your ticklish spots are.” Sanada said, looking extra serious.

Yukimura stared up at Sanada, then laughed again. “You’re a bad liar, Genichirou.” he said, pulling Sanada down for more kisses. “I have some lube in the nightstand…” he offered up.

Sanada gave Yukimura a look. “A hint?” he said, knowing it was, leaning over to rummage for it. Yukimura laughed.

“It’s been a while, but certainly we can’t be that out of practice, right?” Yukimura said, squirming as Sanada rubbed lube on to his cock. Yukimura rolled them back over so he was on top. Sanada just gave him a disbelieving look which turned into a groan of pleasure as Yukimura took him. Yukimura grinned as he started thrusting. “I guess not.” he said, leaning down and capturing Sanada’s lips in a kiss.

Sanada squirmed, moving in time with Yukimura’s body, and moaning through the kiss. Yukimura pulled away from the kiss, moaning as well. “Genichirou…oh….” Yukimura groaned as his climax escaped him rather quickly. Spent, Yukimura flopped down on Sanada’s chest. “Sorry about that,” he said softly. “It’s been way to long.”

Sanada just smiled a little, reaching up to stroke Yukimura’s hair.

“Seiichi.” he said, waiting for Yukimura to look at him. When Yukimura was looking at him, he continued. Sanada wasn’t exactly sure where he was going with this. He was never good with words, especially when it came to Yukimura. “I did what I have to, and always chose duty over what I wanted.” he was now, feeling like a truly horrible person for doing what he had thought was the right thing and suppressing his feelings about the man he was now lying with.

Yukimura nuzzled Sanada’s neck. “As always, Genichirou. It really has been too long…Isn’t it time to do what you want?” he asked.

Sanada paused for a moment. “Why do you think I’m here now?” he asked. “Renji and Niou just gave me the push I needed.”

“Remind me to send them a thank you note.” Yukimura said, grinning now as he re-settled himself. Too many years had gone by without being held by Sanada’s strong arms.

Sanada chuckled a little, holding Yukimura tightly against him. He would have to sign that thank you note as well.
