/xai/ - audio (backdated to before the festival)

[Tattoi's return to Luceti is... uneventful. Quiet, even. The only thing that really signals his presence is a repeated clang of metal-on-stone. See, in Luceti Valley, Tattoi's a disgruntled miner. He works his tail off - literally, as he lost it in a mining accident - to supply the smithy with metals and coal for the forge. Lack of proper respect ( Read more... )

[Robert isn't a miner, but being a magitechnological corporation owner means that he depends very much on the job's output of material. And, in that vein, he's already made a prototype mining suit (Daisy's AU MJOLNIR) to try to lower the hazardous conditions of the job.

Tattoi may not know him very well, but unlike most owners of large corporations, he is very willing to assist villagers who need it.

Also, he was born at the orphanage too...]

I'm glad that your efforts have been so fruitful. If you like, I will personally ensure that magitechnological digging equipment is dispatched to that particular mine. [That gold in particular sounds highly useful for wiring...]

Does the shaft need more structural reinforcement? I know the mines can be quite dangerous, which is an altogether shameful state. [Robert's voice is genuine. He's seen too many miners get hurt, and even if he has a lot of wealth and the capacity to attempt to interfere in almost every case, there's still so much he can't do. Which is why he built the prototype mining ( ... )

I would much appreciate all of that, yes. The shafts are, quite frankly, a nightmare.

[And there's the sound of the cart rattling and squeaking along.] Whatever you can do to ensure that I don't lose a fourth god-damned limb. [Not counting the tail.]

...

The owners of the mines really do not know how to do proper upkeep of the place, do they.

[For once there's a reason for him to have all this money.]

I'll dispatch equipment immediately, then. May I have a name? I must thank you for this information.

[Robert has some people to be very angry at in Tattoi's favour.]

... Perhaps you would be a good candidate for my prototype mining suit... Assuming I can retrofit it, of course, and then there's the trouble of trying to recreate the Third Party-salvaged parts... But it would be worth it.

A mining suit? I would greatly appreciate such a thing.

[The cart keeps squeaking and rattling along.] Tienei S. Tattoi. Please, call me Tattoi.

I am not sure if you have heard of me, but I am... Robert Alexander Hastings. [An internal wince at this, because Robert is used to unpleasant reactions...]

I recently designed a prototypical mining suit for a colleague of mine... though she is inordinately strong, and she was one of the few people I could find capable of using the suit as it was initially designed.

Were I to take measurements of you, Tattoi, it is likely I could try to do the same for you.

[He doesn't particularly care about who you are if you're offering him a suit of mining armor. :|a]

If you will give me a few minutes, Robert, I would be available for measurements. [Cart's still squeaking along.]

[Hey, well, that automatically makes Tattoi more accepting than the vast majority of the villagers. It figures that a misanthropic person would be more accepting of Robert than most people.]

Please, take as much time as you need. I am in no hurry, and I would not wish for you to endanger yourself.

[That cart seriously needs oiling. Robert will do it himself if he has to. Why is the mining corporation so inefficient?]

Very well.

[A rather noisy few minutes later, and the blasted squeaking finally stops. Tattoi sighs in relief, then turns his attention towards the journal again.]

Robert, would you mind meeting me in the bar? I'm in desperate need of some water before anything else.

[Oh man, the bar. Robert's go-there-and-be-an-alcoholic place of choice.]

... I wouldn't mind at all, Tattoi.

I can set off there right now, if you would like.

[And Tattoi might hear Robert getting ready to go on an unannounced trip to the bar, gathering up his items so as to take proper measurements and the like in a carrying case.

It's gonna take a lot of willpower to not get sidetracked by the alcohol.]
