There's an interesting part in The Emperor of Scent where the lead character (Luca Turin, who developed a unique theory of how smell works through detecting electron shell vibration rates) noted that the young people who submit papers often get rejected in the peer-review process, but that the older established profs . . . who are also the peer reviewers . . . seem to get a lot of unique papers submitted themselves.
And if those papers look a lot like the previously submitted younger researcher papers . . . tough.

You do realize that the IPhone and Facebook are absolute complete paradigm shifts when it comes to revolutionizing technology! And one wonders why I am not invited back to play in too many places. Empty hype has replaced real innovations.
When I studied quantum physics my first realization was that: this is not done.
You must be more acutely aware of this being in the Mathematics field. New arcane financial instrument? No problem.
This is the real tragedy. This civilization is in the process of chopping down the last tree on the Island (Easter Island reference for those not familiar with "Collapse")
The true shabby record of for profit medicine and Big Pharma could not be any more clear. Yet corporate public relations just whisk the facts and any bothersome nay Sayers away.

You are absolutely right about quantum physics, and many smart people have come to the exact same conclusions. Quantum physics and relativity are like the blind men in the parable of the blind men and the elephant- each is feeling a part and describing it correctly, yet totally ignorant of the ultimate nature of the whole

Even Einstein spent a good portion of his career as a government clerk. Not that I look down on that kind of work or think all that much of Einstein

There's definitely something wrong with a country when the best and brightest don't become engineers, scientists or doctors, but designers of financial scams.
I'm not surprised to hear about the comments on alternet. The orthodox science thought police, an offshoot of the organized "skeptical" movement, is very well organized on the internet, and they'll make sure to drown out any serious debate on suppression in science and technology with cries of "conspiracy theory" and platitudes about the "laws of nature" of which they, the organized skeptics, have of course complete and final knowledge.
