Eeeep. I do wish they wouldn't *do* that. It's completely their fault, and yet we feel so bad about it, anyway. Especially when they then run away from you for the next few days...
The awful thing was that I usually wear soft shoes indoors, but I hadn't taken off my hefty Hotters. It would happen then! Is there anything we should be looking for? She seems as active as she always is, but I keep thinking of children I've known who walked around on broken legs for several days.
Oh, I'm hopeless with that sort of thing - watching them for ages, trying to work out whether there's anything wrong with them or not. I think, if she's moving and jumping around as normal, there's probably not much to worry about. If you can manage to run your hand down her leg, and maybe check the pads on her foot, it's worthwhile, just to see if anything's odd, or if she reacts especially badly.
But I suspect that her scream earlier was probably as much about shock as anything!
Thank you, yes, I managed to scoop her up almost as soon as she yelled, and to stroke her leg and paw. Even in the ordinary way, she doesn't care for her feet being touched, but she simply removed it as usual - and then stayed in my arms for several minutes and began to purr, before shooting off to the windowsill and from there to the top of a bookcase. So I hope it's all right - we let her out about three hours later, and now she's asleep on a chair after a good meal.
Poor kitty! I'm glad she's all right - they are amazingly talented at getting themselves in inappropriate places, aren't they? And at complaining too. :-)
I'm beginning to think, having slept on it and watched her this morning, that she was more alarmed than hurt. There were seconds during which I could see my hefty shoe, but not her paw, but it's possible that, looking down, the shoe obstructed my view, and that the paw didn't take as much weight as I feared it had.
OW! they have such a knack of getting under your feet unexpectedly - and it's always your fault not theirs of course! It does sound as if it was more shock than anything else though
