American Splendor

I have been reading American Splendor, a comic book anthology written by Harvey Pekar and drawn by a variety of rather stunning icons of cartooning including Robert Crumb and Gary Dumm. It is basically a set of autobiographical sketches of Pekar's life, episodes of the unremarkable. Ironically this is precisely what makes it so fascinating. ( Read more... )

That's what made me aware of the book; My partner and I were on our way to B&N and they were interviewing him on MPR. The movie didn't sound very interesting, but I was curious about the book -- and in B&N it had a face-out among the graphic novels. So I guess the movie sold the book to me.
