Here is part 2 of my Tanzania 2008 photo post. Find pics 1-30 and a little more information about the trip in
Part 1.

32.
Unfortunately this is about as close as we got to elephants, my favorite animal. We could see them quite well through the binoculars though :)
33.
Hippos! My older sister Emma thought all of our picture of hippos were rocks. :P
34.
After elephants, giraffes are definitely close to top of the list of my favorite animals :)
35.
Our truck :) Alexx actually managed to slip and fall out of it (we were stopped, no worries!) and really hurt her ankle, but it didn't hinder her too much, and it was o.k. in the end.
36.
Aren't they just beautiful? ^_^
37.
The Maasai tribe did a little welcome dance for us when we arrived to visit their village. It was fascinating; we got to sit in one of their houses and the man told us some things about their way of life. They were SO TALL, yet even I had to duck to get into the house (I'm 5'4'', or 164cm).

39.
This is the monolith in Olduvai (or Oldupai) Gorge. It was here the first hominid remains were found, so basically where we started. :) Wikipedia has pretty much the same picture as mine, which made me laugh :P
40.
Another shot of Olduvai Gorge.

42.
Aww, this gazelle only has one horn. :( I think the animal we saw most of was Thomson's gazelles (until we got into Ngorogoro Crater, that is!) I love them :)
43.
ZEBRA! :D I go particularly gooey over the zebra :D
44.
So many times I tried to take pictures of the zebra, they turned their bums to me! Made me feel like Zazu from The Lion King, haha :P. No idea what that wildebeest is doing in the picture, though!
45.
That is the top bar of our truck you can see at the bottom of the picture, so it kind of demonstrates how close we got to the animals. :)

These pictures are in the Ngorogoro Crater. According to Wiki, it is "610 m (2,000 ft) deep and its floor covers 260 km2 (100 sq mi)". All I can say is that when we camped on top of the surrounding hills, we were thousands of feet up, much higher than Ben Nevis, and FROZE.
49.
At first we thought these wildebeest were fighting, but now I think maybe they are having a mating ritual. There are so many wildebeest here as the animals travel through here for the great migration to the Maasai Mara area in Kenya. We were actually supposed to go to Kenya originally, but couldn't because of war there. So actually we missed most of the migration!
50.
Wildebeest, zebra, and flamingoes - that pretty much sums up the animals in the crater! Honestly, we felt like we were right in the middle of The Lion King!
51.
52.
Warthogs :)

56.
Some more hippos! Couldn't blame Emma for thinking these were rocks!
57.
Aww, I love ostriches. We didn't see too many, but a few got really close to the truck :)

Ngorogoro Crater Lake
59.
A view of Ngorogoro Crater driving to or from our campsite on top of the hills. I love this one. :D
