HCD's mother keeps getting injured by her dogs but can't seem to live without them. A cat would be a lot more practical but I don't think she'll concede.

A cat would probably be a better option for them, except that my brother and I are both allergic. I can tolerate being around cats for a while, but if my brother came over he probably wouldn’t even go into the apartment.

on the other hand, needing to make that walk on a regular basis to let the dog out could help them improve their physical stamina. and a small lap dog is like a little heating pad.

This is true, but knowing my mom she’ll try to make my dad do it when she doesn’t feel like it.

And the fact is, they’re both getting older. And I worry that there will come a point when neither one of them will be able to walk the dog.
