Sin City - the various stories have differing timelines - its not linear at all, from memory Marv's death is the last event in the timeline so far - If you recall you see Marv briefly in "That Yellow Bastard" after his supposed death as well...

Aside from that I agree with you - Sin City 2 isn't a patch on the first one.
