The Sanctuary Cafe in Hove is also amazing, they do loads of great vegan cakes, and things like wheat free ones too. Did you go in the Inifinity Foods supermarket? The smell there is one of my favourite in the world.

I didn't hear about the Sanctuary, but I'll have a look for it next time as I'm always interested in cake! I did indeed go to the supermarket, it was wonderful. If I'd known they did the buns to take out I would have probably gone to Shakeaway for my little break and taken a bun home, but never mind eh :)

Oh my! I'm doing a 3 week detox (naturopath ordered), which means no gluten, sugar, caffeine, etc. This post was both very wonderful to read and very painful!

Oh my! I keep telling myself I need to do something like that just to break my bad food habits, but the lure of baking (and food tourism!) is just too strong! How far in to the detox are you? Stay strong! ;)

Yeah, I was always telling myself that too. But as if! It's because I went to the naturopath, and that costs money... so you kind of have to do what they tell you or else it's a financial waste!

He told me I am not processing proteins, and that's why I'm feeling stressed/anxious/depressed... which makes sense. I'm on day 11 of 21 but still feeling bleh.

He would encourage me to eat meat, though he's respectful of my veganism. It just means I have to eat beans at lunch and dinner (I've even taken to eating full meals at breakfast now) to get in extra protein.

Here's hoping! I know the sugar didn't necessarily make me feel better, but so far this doesn't feel super great either!

And baking! Oh it's such a lovely thing! Maybe, post-detox, I'll find ways of baking that I can do... non-gluten, with fruit as sweetener or stevia? It'll be interesting!

That's a very good way to convince yourself to do it! I think sugar is a bit like a drug, it makes you feel better briefly but then there's always a crash after it :S For sugar-free (or reduced sugar) baking, you could try apple sauce? I know people often use it for low fat baking as an egg replacer, so that may help :) Good luck!

Strangely I am also applying for a PCGE in Brighton or London but I've not heard back from Brighton and my London one is Middlesex (interview tomorrow!), so that's no use. I'm lucky enough that my mum has to get a flat for a year in Hayward's Heath as she's teaching in Brighton but living in the midlands, that plus my bursary will see me okay (if I get in!).

Oh my, good luck! Are you applying for a course starting in this September or 2010?

It's for a September start, I was never very good at planning! The good news is I got in :) now I have to work out how early I need to get up to commute to North London :/

I doubt you'll ever get anything as odd but in our presentation he said we weren't allowed to use computers or overhead projectors. He then *told* us what the topic was, apparently if we'd emailed to ask he would have told us. Although he was looking for the content a bit, it was mainly to see who could think on their feet and who spent all their time scribbling down notes during other peoples' presentations. Also a guy had a panic attack and had to be taken in an ambulance, I don't think he got in....

Oh wow, that's fairly short notice! I'll be making notes of your hints for sure. I was wandering around town today and had a look at some books, I think I might buy one to give me some sort of idea of what to expect, because thinking on my feet has never really been my strong point :P A panic attack sounds a little extreme though! If he couldn't deal with an interview, go help him in a class full of rowdy London kids :S Time for a change of career path, perhaps?!
