Wish List 2010.

Nov 16, 2010 15:38

Christmas is coming, so I decided to compile my paper lists of "stuff I'd like" into an internet version. There's a mixture of things that are more realistic (books, yarn), things I'd love but can't justify their realative expense ($30 Moomins mugs), dream items (Addi click circular needle set, cursive typewriter, a car), hard to find (vegan boots ( Read more... )

Aww thanks! Me too :) I don't know if I dreamt this up, but didn't you have a Moomins flask?

Ahh, where's it from? I'm hoping to still be able to find one this year - eep! Also, let me know if you want to sell me yours ;)

All of this stuff is lovely. :)

I know it's probably not the best way of going about it, but I'm going to buy one of those starter knitting kits that has the wool and a pattern and some needles to create a scarf or something, and then see how I like it and carry on from there. If I decide it's as awesome as I think it is then I'm definitely going to ask for your advice on where I should carry on!

Yeah! Rather than buying a kit, I'd suggest getting a Ravelry account and looking around on there. The first thing you'll want to knit is either a dishcloth or a scarf, using only knit stitch, which will come out like this:

Soooo, you'd be best off going to a local yarn store and asking someone who works there what needle sizes to get, and the yarn that's appropriate to knit with said needles (I'd recommend chunky needles and chunky yarn!) That way you'll get yarn that you actually like rather than the stuff that comes in a kit :)

what a lovely list!

thanks for the list of feminist lit. lately i've been really trying to be aware of how much mainstream media i consume, and i've been getting back to my feminist roots and rereading some of my favorite books. it just makes me feel so much better.

i have a pair of vegan doc martens and i love them. i don't know if you're particular about the doc marten brand, but there are other similar boots out there that look like docs: http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/airseal_footwear/airseal_para_boot_black/10533_p.html (they come in blue, black, green, and purple; they have a similar boot that comes in red, burgundy, and brown). i have pretty large feet (US women's size 12, UK size 9/10) so any vegan shoes in my size are a blessing ( ... )

Thanks! I'd only seen the 10 eyelet para boots before, and I didn't realise the others came in different colours. That's so aweseome! Do you have the actual Doc Martens or the similar ones?

Is there any difference between UK Mars bars and US 3 Musketeers? I'm impressed that you managed 5 in one sitting; I have a ridiculously sweet tooth and I don't think even I could have managed that!
