Depending on where you went to school, you may be able to use Gradmed. I used them for several months when I was between jobs, and they were way cheaper than the work Cobra program or anything else I could find.

Is it possible that short-term insurance is just not available around here?

That must have changed recently, since I was living here when I used it. Sorry about that.

It is possible that Massachusetts has particular laws that makes companies not want to bother w/ offering short-term insurance or something.

I came up w/ some places googling that offer quotes for Massachusetts, but have no idea if they would be remotely affordable.
