SGA, other shows to watch...

May 26, 2011 19:35

Boo, I finished watching SGA tonight... am rather sad that it's over. I never got all that super into it, but I enjoyed it on the whole. It really is too bad it didn't get a season 6 and a movie evidently isn't happening, because I'm definitely intrigued to see what could happen next - it would have been a very different show in s6, I think, and it ( Read more... )

Finally done, eh? I second Castle, just 'cause it's Nathan and kind of silly. I've also heard SGU is good, if you're into the franchise enough to keep going. Other'n that, there isn't much I know of that would be up your alley. Except maaaaybe Bones? *shrugs* I feel like you've seen all the major franchises too, except Trek. Heckuva lot more of than than I've seen, anyway.

Ooh, Red Dwarf? ;-)

Heh yeah, I'll probably go for Castle. I've already, ahem, acquired the first season, anyway ( ... )

Wow, I can't believe you made it all the way through. I am impressed!!!

In terms of recs, of course I have my personal favourites but I'm not sure if you'd like them. I will always love "Earth 2" so have to recommend that. ;)

In terms of the Treks, I found DS9 the best. TNG is VERY dated these days and would probably bore you/make you cringe. I do have fond memories of Voyager too. (Or you could just work your way through the Trek movies if you haven't seen them all?!)

Heh well it wasn't really a hardship, at least not after the first season. :) I rarely had the urge to really tear through it except the week before the con, but I still basically enjoyed it and it gave me something to watch over dinner/while crocheting.

Hmm, I've only vaguely heard of Earth 2 - will have to check it out sometime. Sounds interesting, too bad it got cancelled after a season. The good ones always do, eh?

Yeah, I figured TNG would be pretty dated now - same reason I don't really want to watch TOS. Yeah it's a classic, but... I think one has to have watched it while growing up to appreciate it properly. And I haven't actually seen any of the movies except the new one, so I really ought to do that! At least the first few - I hear they got pretty bad after that?

Oh! Well if you want to talk Trek movies, I can do that for hours. ;)

The first one is terribly boring UNLESS you know the appropriate backstory, that is, that it's all about Kirk and Spock and everything else is just decoration that can be watched on fast-forward. ;) (I can tell you that backstory if you want - it's a combination of things from TOS and the novels written about the intervening years.)

II through IV are what most fans consider the best. I love V because of the character moments (again, the plot is ludicrous) and VI is also widely liked.

I refuse to watch VII ever again (due to character death), but by then we're into the TNG-cast movies. Which are actually quite good, but totally different!

(I grew up watching TNG and yeah, I haven't watched all of TOS for the same reasons as you!)

Good to know! I figured those earlier ones were the best ones, from what I'd heard. I'll have to get around to watching eventually, I guess.

Heh, maybe? :) I confess most procedural crime shows don't interest me that much, unless they have some kind of other hook or unless they have more of an emphasis on the characters than on the crime. Which maybe it does, I don't know. :) I skimmed an IMDB summary and it doesn't interest me much but the reviews say it's really good, so maybe someday. I've sometimes gotten really into shows I didn't expect to (like Oz, which let's face it, I only started watching for the Beecher/Keller relationship... and it turned out to be really really good).

Oh, and given how much Hawaii-50 fic I've been inhaling, I have been watching more episodes and it's not that bad!

Haha true there is always that! I feel weird about watching it and reading Steve/Danny fic, because I remember Dad watching the original when I was a kid. o.o And he and Mom have gotten really into the remake, heh. But still, might watch some more. The few eps I saw were entertaining enough.
