He’s running through the corridors of the city, armed and in full uniform. This is usual enough that he only gets a few odd looks, people curious as to what catastrophe is befalling them this time and if they need to do anything to help prevent it. He barely even registers their presence, let alone stops to answer questions. He couldn’t help much anyway. All he knows is that there’s been an explosion in Cal’s lab and someone has been seriously injured.
He’s going as fast as he can, but his shallow breathing and the sweat dripping into his eyes is not a reflection of that level of exercise. Later, this is going to be difficult to explain. But right now all he can worry about is making sure his lover is ok.
Subconsciously, he takes a deep breath as he rushes into the infirmary, preparing himself for whatever may await him.
Calvin, drawn and tired looking, turns toward him from his seat on the chair next to the bed. His eyes are saddened and as they meet Nick’s they speak volumes. ‘It wasn’t me. We cheated death again. How many more chances can we get?’
Lorne nods and sags against the wall. He’s just relieved his Cal is still with him. Everything else, they can worry about later.
