My favorite (and trustworthy) charity: Mercy Corp. They normally do overseas work, but they've got a fund set up for disaster relief for Katrina victims.

92% of the money given to Mercy Corp goes to the programs, only 8% goes to administration.

Thanks for the link. This just defies belief. It will be years putting it right.

K was saying she feels guilty for worrying about the penguins. I'm sort of in the same situation getting upset thinking about looters just taking all of that fabulous vintage jewelry we looked at.

I was thinking about all the lovely infectious diseases from water contaminantion. Which naturally made me think of you...

I remember standing at Cafe Du Monde and looking up at the levee and then back behind me at the French Quarter and thinking "this is bad" - and the French Quarter is high ground in the city.

Awwww. *g*

It certaily would be a perfect breeding zone for cholera bacteria, but I don't think it will come to that. It's not like people are going to start drinking that water since I assume it's brackish.

I was remebering the camera man from The Weather Channel filming the street musician at Cafe du Monde.

They've known for so long that the levee system would screw them one of these days. Maybe this will finally force them to do something to correct it.
