Today was my first real productive day doing some freelance editing work that I may actually get paid for! If I could do this every day it would be something, since I made a little over $100 (actually more like $70 after I take out 30% for taxes the self-employed must pay) but it's something. It feels pretty good to accomplish the thing I actually ( Read more... )

original writing, unemployed gah!, personal ramblings, things that are awesome, somewhat employed now, good news everyone!, kool stuff

I'm so glad you've got a little ray of hope shining through finally! And that original fic sounds... intriguing ;D

It's a teeny tiny ray of hope at the moment. I wish they used me more, but I guess I have to take what I can get. How about you? I do wish I had an actual job to go to that paid me, or I had a job I could do at home that took up more time. I do all the housework so my girlfriend doesn't have to do anything, but I still feel guilty that I can't contribute more, and that for the first time since I left home I am not self-sufficient.

Y'know, you could easily do the same thing. Amazon and many other self-pub places (there are a few) pay worldwide. You could pump out a quick fuck story of about 5000 words (which is how many erotic authors on Amazon got started) and be rolling in cash in no time. Unlike me, who has to write slow build-up stuff because I can never write PWPs.

How about you?

I was doing some casual admin work for a community college, but it's been like five weeks since the last time they called me, so God only knows when I'll get more work. One of my brothers, who farms website domains (whatever that means), has thrown me a bone, and is paying me to write copy for his websites, but it's not much as he's just starting out his business and isn't exactly making a living off it yet.

Other than that, nothing but having to deal with fucking employment agencies driving me nuts - these are fortnightly appointments I have to show up for, otherwise they cut off my dole payments. Not only do I keep getting randomly transferred to different agencies for no reason, most of them don't do jack shit - after six months with this latest one, she randomly asked one day, "By the way, what disability do you have again?" Seriously?! It's your job to help me find work, and you can't even be arsed to remember what's wrong with me?! I was thisclose to straight up smashing her in the face ( ... )

At least you have the dole! Mine dried up in 2012. I dealt with people like that when I was getting unemployment. I had to go and check in, but they couldn't be bothered to even help me with anything useful. What a crock of shit that was.

Well, keep your head up. I'm trying too!

I like the sound of the erotica piece and great news about the editing. I hope you get more work like this.

I hope I get more work too! I got lucky with this one. I've never pursued the freelance thing because it is very, very competitive. Not like it used to be. Now you have competition from people around the world and they bid super cheap. I can't afford that.

Whoo writing porn professionally! I think that makes a fascinating story, if you ever do a little article about your experiences.

Best of luck with the story. It sounds interesting and hot. Before I read fanfic, I read some original erotica, and it was kind of an interesting experience for me, because it was nothing like published erotica. It was way more explicit and more interesting.

I started researching how to do it last year. The market is constantly fluctuating. I haven't actually *published* anything yet, just a lot of researching! I like researching more than the effort of doing it.

When I think of erotica, I think of "fade to black" stuff with maybe some heavy petting or something, nothing actually happening on screen, probably based on what I think it to be based on porn. In the world of written erotica, "erotica" is categorized as purely sex -- at least by Amazon. So you *need* it in your books.

a) That is so cool about the freelance job! It sounds like it is just the kind of thing you need and you can do it from home. And the money doesn't sound too terrible. AWESOME!!!!!!

b) I didn't even know you had an article published at Gawker! How did I miss that? What a cool way to end up getting a job!

c) Ugh, I never want to have to sign up for Google+. It sounds so intimidating.

d) I would read the shit out of a story with that premise. Though 60 days after sale is a long time to wait for a turn around. Boo.

a) If it was more constant it would be better. The company offers IT specialized work to the government. They write job proposals, and only when they have a chance at a bid. So it's not every day. I'll take what I can get though! Any money, even $1, is better than $0 that I'm making right now ( ... )

d) You might actually get to read the shit out of it for free when I need a second set of eyes

I can do that!! I like the idea of being First!
