I was watching the Military History channel this morning when a recognizable voice caught my attention. Behold Scott Winters, aka Cyril O'Reily, doing a commercial for some gold investment firm.
You know, I'm a rabid CNN fan, so I guess I assumed people knew about this. There's 2 or 3 of these commercials that rotate on CNN constantly. They started annoying me a while ago, but then most folks probably don't mainline during disaster like me. (Since the quake, I also listen to CNN audio at work.) *shrug*
Perhaps it annoys me because he always says "I'M SCOTT WINTERS AND I'VE BEEN A GOLD HOUND FOR A BILLIONTY YEARS!" like that will make us all jump on the wagon, too. Most people are going "who?"
I knew who he was from watching Oz and knowing he did the Chevy commercials and other voice work, but I had to look him up to see that he, like, lives in a cabin and pans for fucking gold in his spare time. Or maybe that's his job now?
I'm torn - on the one hand, it's always nice for an actor to land a commercial for due to the residual checks. But on the other hand, I had so much secondhand embarrassment, especially when he whipped out the gold bar. Wayyyy too Troy McClure.
