you can get a word count widget thingy from the nano site--find the drop down menu on the nano site to "fun stuff" and it'll say word count widgets or word count api or something like that.

I found both but I can't figure out how to use the API. All it does is show a bunch of words.

huh. lemme google and see if the word count bar we used to use is still active.

well, this will work:

once you input and and "make" your word bar, the html will show up. :)

Also, I don't bother to use the word count validator until I'm ready to win. Up til then I just update with what Word says, lol. I also make sure i write an extra 500-1000 words, just in case, because the one year NaNo's validator gypped me out of 400 words.
