So I keep mulling over the idea that I should change my Tumblr or get a second one to talk about political stuff. Because it seems like that is where All The Discourse is happening in real time these days, and then I get lost and confused when people bring stuff up here or on Twitter ( Read more... )

i didn't even know you had a tumblr. what's your tumblr? i shall follow you. (yes, mine is entirely john as opposed to here so no expectation of reciprocation.) and i totally hear you and i don't think it has anyhting to do with your brain. i dont' understand these friends of mine who say they are leaving lj for tumblr. how are you supposed to...discuss anything there? you can't even reply to other people or anything. it's stupid.

I'm rhivolution, but I don't post all that much, to be honest. Only periodically when something on my timeline is interesting and I'm like OOOH.

Wait, people actually try to use tumblr to discuss things? I thought it was all... image spam.

Yeah, they do. Though on Dreamwidth, I'm hearing from people in the progressive/social justice world who don't like the phenomenon either, due to the difficulty of discussion. I think it's because that's where a lot of younguns are starting blogging?

That is an awesome T'Pol icon, by the way.

Tumblr doesn't even have a reply function, though... Or maybe I've been using it wrong.

Which, if I read all the words instead of skimming while at work, I would've read is exactly your issue with it, too.

I, too, have found Tumblr intensely confusing for anything more than pretty pictures and video clips and brief quotes. It might be that I'm just not as familiar/comfortable with its platform, but gosh, I have a hard enough time following big, widespread discussions on LJ, where people frequently make primer posts linking to major parts of discussions and so on. It wouldn't even occur to me to look for that kind of thing on Tumblr.

I can't do anything serious on Tumblr. Just pretty pictures and shallowness. Any kind of discussion, I can't keep up!
