This is totally going to be like that time I went looking to make home espresso, and ended up knowing way more than I ever bargained for about coffee, and how to make quality coffee, and now I do crazy stuff like roast my own beans

Ohh, I didn't know about sprouted wheat, and don't know if it's available around here, but if it is, and if you make bread with it, let me know. The spouse is finicky about the starch in bread, and I've had to resort to buying gluten-free breads for him, but they're heavy and dense and usually sort-of-stale, since the health food store freezes those loaves...
I don't think grocery stores carry it. The coop MIGHT, but even then, I think chances are slim. So far, it seems to be something small farms are doing, and ordering the flour from them is $3-4/pound, plus shipping.
Hence why I'm contemplating the craziness of making my own.
Seriously, this is the kind of stuff I'm already getting in to. XD I grind my own spices, toast them if I'm making Indian food. I'm planning on making my own peanut butter, growing my own vegetables, baking my own bread (I already do this, but infrequently, since I have a dining hall available).
Mmmm, do you have good Indian food recipes?? My curry never ever turns out like I hope. :(
Sadly, me and growing vegetables = no win. I kill things. And given that all of our soil is red clay, I would REALLY kill things if I tried to garden in this house. But fortunately, we're very close to several big farms, so I do all of my produce shopping there in the summer. :D
I will for sure keep everyone updated! I have ordered some sprouted flour to try. Should arrive sometime next week.
I only have a good chicken tikka masala recipe, which... is like chinese take-out in terms of authenticity. I'm working my way through other recipes slowly, though. :) Mostly the spicy meat stew dishes.
I... managed to kill a plant called a semper vivum. YEAH. So. We'll see how gardening works out for me. The problem with my plants is that I tend to over-water. I get really worried about them. Haha.
But then there's one step further - sprouted wheat. Sprouted wheat is wheat allowed to sprout, then washed and dried, before being ground into flour. This also comes in a white variety, and the very best part?? The sprouting changes its make up from a starch, into a vegetable! From what I'm reading, this is probably how people actually used wheat berries in the days of yore, when bread was a vital part of the food supply in most cultures.
so effing cool! you've got me all jazzed with your post!!!

I have ordered some sprout wheat flour, so we'll see how it goes.
I'm sure this isn't a miracle food, but it certainly does sound a LOT healthier than what we eat now.
