Actually, the troll looking thing was the first to make an appearance, followed by this combat reminiscent of Aragorn vs. the troll in the last battle of RotK, only this was with Leonidas. This gratuitously long and unbelievable sequence took place shortly after I'd said something to Mark like "See, this isn't all that bad so far." After which, I had to lean over and say "Ok, so the whole troll thing we could've done without."
But see, you're forewarned, so you know what to expect. and the visuals in the movie really are impressive, despite the rhino and troll and demonic ninjas. :D

It's a good thing I caught something about the real battle on the History Channel because as much as I enjoyed the movie, I think I found the real battle much more interesting. I think all the actors did a great job. Yes, some of the fight scenes and rhinos and elephants and deformed creatures were over the top, but the movie was based on a graphic novel which was loosely based on the historical events. I just had fun with it!

OMG, the abs are all real? WOW. I mean, I knew they to be mostly real, but sheesh. They were quite distracting at times, I must say.

Apparently, the guys went through a six-week training session to get their bodies to look like that. I think it was worth it :)
