Well I have a really good friend I went to college with who pretty much hits every movie showing. It's her thing, she likes movies and she can afford to go for the most part. So she called me about a week ago and mentioned the Mortal Instruments and asked if I wanted to go. I was more than a bit negative. I want to see The Butler myself and my ( Read more... )

The production budget was 60 million and there is no way in hell it's going to make its money back, it is currently at 17 million and dropping fast. Couldn't happen to a more deserving person. And that's people who don't know crap about fandom, they just know a shitty movie and shitty, derivative plot when they see it.

I think it's hilarious myself. She won't get another Hollywood deal even if she writes the biggest best seller evah. Hollywood has long memories and from what I've heard(Fandom_Wank is following the failure closely) she's been throwing everyone but herself under the bus concerning the film's failure.

Love it when Karma bites back and it could not happen to a more deserving person.

Haha, those Fandom Wank threads are pretty funny. Cassie is such a cow! Love how she's distancing herself now from the movie she was supposed to have liked so much and given so much input. Hack!

I haven't read many of the reviews myself. It's Cassandra Clare and that's all I need to know. But a friend in Minnesota tried to read the books and gave up by page 3. That my other friend demanded and GOT a refund from the theater? Priceless!

I'm glad the UK press has panned it though. I hadn't looked at the Bad Penny thing in yrs when I showed it to my friend. She was all over how MANY people CC stole from. It was like I cannot believe she got away with this. I was like well she did, and she didn't. She's been called out on it in the past, and even now it's a story that will not go away. Too many of us remember.

Poor guy. I don't know how much work he's had in Hollywood but I think his career will survive this.

I'm thrilled it's tanking. What goes around does eventually come around and I think she got burned here. Have you read her latest interviews? She backpedals like Lance Armstrong.
She's only as popular as she is because her target audience is too young to remember all the stuff on badpenny and such.

She's not popular outside of that audience though which was a terrible thing for a movie. As I told a friend last night, Twilight as much as I despised it, crossed demographic groups and pretty much was everywhere. I've not seen her books do that at all. I see em at Walmart and well my opinion of what Walmart stocks in the way of reading is not good. But since her groups ONLY appealed to the YA crowd there was no way this was going to pull in the grosses the Twilight franchise did.

But yeah. For you and all the other REAL writers I know I am thrilled karma is biting her back.
