My Powerbook, which has been fussy and problematic for the last several months, decided to stop working yesterday. I have a bad feeling that the hard drive is shot-- when I try to power it on, I get the chime and the light comes on on the latch button, but there's no sound of the hard drive spinning up, and nothing further happens. I wish I had a helpful suggestion! Are there any laptop leasing programs out there that you could take advantage of? Any of your other friends have an old one that you could use longer term?

You might also be able to find something cheap and used on Craigslist or elsewhere, like campus notice boards.
