Jurassic Yawn

Seduced by the velociraptors as seen in the trailers and gifs, I watched Jurassic World.

Well. ( So much squee-harshing. )

other fandoms, velociraptors

no, omg! Jurassic Park is a terrific movie, AND it has velociraptors, AND it has Laura Dern as Ellie Satler and Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm. I have seen it like 20 times. This movie looked so bad even just in the trailers I didn't go see it, and I am a crazed dinosaur fan. Totally see Jurassic Park if you want a different dinosaur movie to take the bad taste from your mouth.

Don't tempt me with velociraptors! I am so weak to them. ;-)

I think the problem is that while I love dinosaurs with a burning passion, I really do not like disaster movies. My father loved them, so as a kid I watched a great deal of them, and they all seemed to be more or less exactly the same formulaic movie.

So even if Jurassic Park is a really *good* disaster movie - which Jurassic World emphatically is not - it probably won't be my thing.

What I really want is 90 minutes of velociraptor training, and hunting with their human alpha, and... yeah.

Which reminds me: I should rewatch "Walking with Dinosaurs"!

I wouldn`t classify Jurassic Park as a disaster movie at all. And it`s really not comparable to Jurassic World. The vibe and pacing and sense of suspense is way different.

Okay, that does sound good. Not a disaster movie, and velociraptors... I think I will check it out, in the hopes it will erase all memory of Jurassic World from my mind.

I liked "Jurassic World." It was a mostly turn off your brain, fun kind of movie. But I also liked "Jurassic Park" and would say that the script for that movie is definitely better. The characters, especially Laura Dern's character, aren't caricatures, and there's a lot of genuine suspense and horror in the movie.

It did deliver on the promise of lots of dinosaurs wreaking havok. :-) In all truth, it was pretty clear that this wouldn't be the movie for me... it's just that the velociraptor training and hunting scenes looked so good, they overruled everything else for me. ;-)

You are the second to say, that this film is boring and not worth the money. I really wished to see JW in cinema but now i' not so sure anymore.

Well, I should add that I do not like disaster movies in principle, so...

I'd say watch it in the theater if you think you'll enjoy seeing a lot of special effects dinosaurs*, and can deal with the flawed characters and formulaic plot. Otherwise, wait for the DVD rental. :-)

* (Though weirdly enough, in some parts of the movie it even seemed like they ran out of money for special effects. They staged most of the major scenes at night so the dinosaurs couldn't be seen properly, and there were several green-screen scenes that were way too obvious for a high-budget blockbuster like this.)

The film was good "switch your brain off" entertainment. Not that I didn't detect some illogical things, but hell, the velociraptors and the other dinosaurs did it.

Illogic is usually the thing that bothers me, but in this case, it was characterization. I felt that the main characters were both offensive stock characters, and couldn't relax into the film at any point because they were always annoying me.
