SSBB Info (Bad and Good)

Bad news is that some Wiis don't play Brawl or they have read issues. Sadly, I have this issue, or I did about 4 or 5 times, until I could get the disk to work. The good news is that if you do have the issue, you can get it fixed. Kotaku goes over some of the information on why the game has read issues, as well as having a link for getting a repairRead more... )

Holy Crap. I thought the Wii was unbeatable, but if they're having to replace lenses to play this game, that's pretty poor. Like the guys in Kotaku, I'm reluctant to believe that you need to send your system in for cleaning. There are tons of aftermarket lense cleaning systems, so It smells like a cover up to me.

What is it with the next gen consoles? It's like they're all made of fail. The PS3 is too expensive, the 360 breaks down after a certain amount of play, and now the Wii has read issues?

Well, yeah, every system has their bugs. Over at Gamefaqs, the forum has a Yes/No question of have you had NRE (No Read Error) issues, and when I answered, it was 42 yes, to 168 no. So its not a huge chunk, and I did get the game to work, but its still a problem. At least Nintendo put up a link to the repair page so you can get it fixed though.

Yeah, pretty much what I figured, but since I have obligations to fill and I doubt I'd have my wii back in time for the con if I sent it out, I'll wait. Oh well.

Not the same problem, but loading Smash Bros into my Wii showed me a problem I had. Screen artifacts or noise all across the screen in the menu and during Wii/VC games (Google search will show you some pics/vids). I haven't played on my since November when galaxy came out, but its been off (but not unplugged) and wiconnect24 is turned off, but it seems to be an overheat issue with the GPU. Unfortunately I'm three weeks past my warranty (and thats with the 3 month extension for registering). So my Wii is going back to the factory to be fixed. Going to cost me $65 (the rep gave me a $10 off) and a few weeks of time, but its a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a brand new Wii.

Ah, that sucks. I also have the 2 year warranty through Best Buy. At least, I'm pretty sure I do. I'm half tempted to just take it back and get another one but that would involve needing them to have more Wiis to exchange mine with. -.-

Good luck on getting yours fixed.
