Ren Faire: Day 2

Apr 02, 2006 20:26

What a fun day! It was great seeing SOLP folks away from ERUUF and not just a dinner for a change. I missed ladymoondance, and almost missed solpgraywolf, but even if we weren't hanging out in a huge massive group the entire time, it was nice seeing folks in the "real" world ( Read more... )

I say "go faire!" violetcatgirl has been on the faire staff for years and swears it's fun. That's always the most important aspect for me.

Your costume was bloody awesome. I'm not sure how the fantasy chic made second call on the final competition. I'm telling you-the little girl had louder applause from where I was standing! Either way, you definitely deserved to win the Nobility category and I'm glad we could help. :)

Yeah, I'm going to be debating for a while. It never hurts to go to a few SCA meetings now, and then when Faire starts up their registration come June, I can try them out too. So no pressure...see what I like better.

Of course, you KNOW this means that if I "go faire" then I can't use my Seymour gown (which would be a shoo-in for winning next year!), then I'll also have to make ANOTHER costume. *grin* Good thing I'm already planning a few in advance, eh?

And thanks! It means SO MUCH to me that you guys were all there. I really am blown away that I made it to Nobility finals with some of those costumes in the running. I'm so happy that you guys shared that moment with me!

That's part of why I've never joined either group before. I like the freedom of either doing something that's complete fantasy, or doing something that is as close to accuarate as I can get it. I do it because I love to sew and I love the research. It's a sense of freedom without feeling any obligations, and as you said, it's fun to play dress up.

But I felt the same way with finding a Pagan group...go fig. *L*

YAAAAAAAAAAYYYY Congratulations on winning!!!!!! I told Mom and she was so happy!!! She did like a little dance and squeed! LOL She said "Tell her how happy I am and she deserved it cause that dress is gorgeous! I feel like bowing down to her because of all the work that she put into it!"

You said: "The Rennies were saying how the SCA strives so much for authenticity in EVERYTHING, and that can take away from the fun. But I love the authenticity side of it. I impressed the lady in the SCA booth who said she was working on a Tudor outfit but couldn't figure out some of the methods to make it look right. She said she was glad to see mine because it helped her solve a few problems (kind of like how I babble about different possible techniques here in my LJ) for her own outfit. I think it's fun figuring all of that out and making it authentic ( ... )

Thanks for the advice, especially since I don't know any SCAdians but have a friend who works the Charlotte Faire! And don't worry, I'm trying to keep a non-biased approach to both groups and don't want to paint either one with a broad brush before seeing more. Obviously, if SCA wasn't actually fun, it wouldn't have the membership it has, and on the other side Ren Faires are a great way to inject my love of research and education into a large public crowd in a more theatrical fashion ( ... )
