I suppose we should make Christmas cakes but we have worked out that nobody really likes them in our family. My sister-in-law made one for my husband a couple of years ago and it was still hanging around at Easter...

I make the cakes because a few years ago friends asked for one for their Christmas present as I usually bake biscuits and brownies and give them home made chutney and jam. They both come from large families so they entertain so any and all edible contributions can be used.

I like fruit cake too so one large one for friends and two small - one for me and one to give away. There's always some one. Last year it was my uncle who likes soggy cake! Mine aren't soggy but, as I use my Mum's trick of soaking the dried fruit for a few days in brandy before making the cake they are moist. I also drizzle extra alcohol into my friend's cake a couple of times before I hand it over.
