Fic 3: Restraint

"You're such a girl sometimes." Oops, did he really say that? In his out-loud voice? Man, if he came out the other side of this with his balls remaining anatomically intact, he'd be the luckiest son-of-a-bitch this side of the Stargate.

Sam looks down. Uh-oh, he thinks, this is worse than anger. For a brief moment he's afraid he actually, really ( Read more... )

This is an elegant little piece that vividly captures just how Jack gets himself into (verbal) trouble, and how he gets himself out, usually by digging himself deeper in, but putting enough body language behind it to endear himself to his audience.

I've enjoyed your other pieces on ff.net, and I am friending you, unless you object. (Feel free to object if you do. I won't be insulted.)

I am from New England myself (Vermont) and lived for a while in the Midwest (Michigan). It was such a relief to move back to where the girl's field hockey scores were on the evening news sports broadcasts, and where hills were hills. The people were nice, though.

Long live night owls! Mornings need to be banned. Or at least seriously delayed.

Dang, such nice words! I'm glad you appreciated how much trouble Jack falls into. Especially in the first few years.

As for the friending, well totally friend away [already friended you back :)]!

I grew up in Connecticut and moved to the midwest for junior high. Been here since. Although I have been job searching all over the US so hopefully I'll snag someplace warm. I miss how hockey and baseball were the only two sports anyone cared about. Well, that and women's basketball...UConn ladies are a mighty fine team. Here all I get is damn college football, *sigh* I really really hate football (played rugby for a year in college and never saw football the same again lol. Bunch of wimps if you ask me).

Death to Mornings!

Thanks for the words :). Stop by any time!

My sister played Rugby at Swarthmore, and two of my kids play hockey, but I'm a swimmer myself.

I played some field hockey in high school, though, and when I was a grad student at U Michigan, the summer Olympics were ongoing one day, and one of my fellow students said "Did you see that weird sport they had on the Olympics last night? It was like hockey, but they played it on grass, with this weird kind of curvy stick..." Turns out I was the only one in the room out of about 10 people who had ever heard of field hockey!

And yeah, the only correct way to view mornings is from having neglected to go to bed because your attention got sucked into something late at night, and you just kind of forgot!

Haha, so true about mornings. My favorite line, "Are you up early or just really late?"

I think people just need to learn how to branch out. I tried to get my friends to a rugby match or two while I was play so they could see how different the sport was. While I sucked it up on the field, the university was the best in the country in our division, so it was pretty cool to show the team off. Course the one game my family made it to was the game I concussed myself in the first ten minutes and got a wicked shiner. Suffice it to say, mom never made it back.

Anyway, sounds like a sporty family! I try to stay true to the try-anything-once strategy, so I've played just about everything at some level or another and the others I'd jump in line for any day. Great, now I wanna do something...;)
