JJ Abrams meets Kurt Vonnegut

In the first episode of this season, Alias was apparently trying to reinvent itself by poorly imitating the first season.
Tonight Alias decided to try reinventing itself by taking a plot device from Kurt Vonnegut and weakening it so that it's not quite so potent, literally or literarily.

Ah, yes. I read that book in high school. Is that the one that has all the stuff about Bokononism?

That's the one.

I wish my high school reading had been that good. At one point my sophomore English teacher had Slaughterhouse Five on the reading list, but there somehow wasn't time to get to it. Coincidentally(?) she didn't like Vonnegut. So I read that one on my own that summer, but it was only when I was in college that I got around to reading Cat's Cradle, Player Piano, and The Sirens of Titan.
