First Google Phone Arrives

So the first Google Phone is finally available, a year after Google revealed their phone plans. The phone is called the G1. This is the first wide-availability phone with open-source firmware, Google's long-awaited Android platform. I had my head in the sand regarding the open source Phones, but got a few tidbits from a friend who is waiting to get one. I read a bit on this one, and must say I'm intrigued.

It leaves me with questions, I think I'll go post.

Not until/unless I get a phone running it. Then I might try to find time to play with coding for it. I had been planning to look into coding for the iPhone/iPodTouch, but if I go Android my time would probably be better spent on that.

One of the google people who float around CMU let me play with theirs for a bit - the thing's fantastic. I probably won't be getting one either though because:

1) I have no reception in my office and very little in my apartment - unless I get better connectivity in both, things that rely on data connections would be silly.
2) Prepaid phone plans have proven to be far more economical for me given how infrequently I make or recieve calls.

The G1 is really tempting though.

Yeah, you could get an unlocable phone but the G1 is set to work on T-Mobile's 3G freq which is different from AT&T's.

Sucks.

Yeah, I had the same idea. Fortunatly work has been slow so I've been researching this. And no word when T-Mobile will get 3G in Pittsburgh...*sigh*

dont worry friend i live in maryland and we have no 3G there either but my G1 came on the 21 and its as fast as i never though it would. great product

I have had t-mobile for a few years and have yet to have any problem with service, neither here or traveling on business.

W00t and I just recently washed and dried my phone So ....
