CBC reports on one southwest Ontario mayor determined to oppose monarchy to multiculturalism. The irony of the photo that CBC used to illustrate the monarchs--William and Kate participating in a First Nations drum ceremony--is likely beyond him.

Paterson wants to build on what may be a shaky foundation. Prince Charles is highly unpopular with many. How his becoming King will effect support for the monarchy is unclear, and may depend on how old he is when he takes the throne, and how long he remains King. William and Kate may be popular now, but there is no way of knowing how the public might view them when he takes the throne, which, barring an abdication by Charles, may well be when he's in his fifties, if not later.
