It's certainly arguable that the Star has that analysis backwards in the long term - that the NDP is at least involved in reassessing the reasons for their loss, but that the Conservatives have not yet even grasped the degree to which they are out of step with the rest of the country and are on track to elect a leader who will continue along much the same path. (The two measures passed on marriage and marijuana are broadly in conformity with Harper's approach - take generally pragmatic positions on social issues while keeping to a much narrower path on economic and some libertarian / small government issues. Note that both measures conform to a broadly small government agenda, reducing the role of government in the two areas concerned.)
