This is somewhat surprising news. (The CBC's Greg Weston did the report.)

I watched the report on this on The National last night. They said that CSIS began watching him for a time circa 2005 after people who knew Katsiroubas became concerned with some of the people he was associating with. It seems pretty obvious he had made some connection with someone they were already watching. There was also some "How could a kid from a good, middle class neighbourhood do this?" sort of talk, which to me shows how people have short memories. A lot of the Western terrorists back in the '60s and '70s were middle class kids who became radicalised, albeit by Marxism and related philosophies instead of the radical Islam presumably involved here.
