They represent a kind of inverted romance, since homosexual situations as such can never be made romantic for normal audiences.

I wonder what that author would think of the fact that much if not most of the slash(male-male romance) fanfiction written is written by straight women. Of course it could be argued fanfic writers and their readers aren't a normal audience I suppose.
