You've just pointed out a big difference between Caribbean and African-Americans. Most Caribbeans still have a link to their home nations, and thanks to jet travel, "back" home is within 3-8 hours away. I can go back home to my family's home town or to my father's former plantation and see a legacy that's been left behind, and I can still find people who remember my parents and grandparents. There are cultural traditions, a language, and such that we share.

In contrast, my nephew's (African-American) family doesn't have any link like that to anywhere.
