Two very swish cars race down a track together.
The team pull up at a gate. There's some banter and joking as they get sorted out; Sarah's with them, apparently now officially part of the field team.
"I hate it when you pull rank."
"I hate sitting in the back."
"You sat in the front last time."
"Who keeps track?!"
"Connor does."
The guard tries to keep them out, but they completely ignore him, watching the cars go by with some admiration before piling back in the Jeep to head towards the Anomaly.
They search through a large garage area. Becker heads off to evacuate the area, while Connor finds an easily visible, really obvious Anomaly.
Abby steps in some gunk. This means a Creature, and they search carefully around. Connor does not complain about splitting up.
Danny investigates a parked truck, discovering a huge bug thing on the roof. He leads it out into the open, where a car Becker has failed to evacuate smushes it. Danny gets gunged. It's really gross.
Credits!
Abby picks bug bits off the car. Sarah doesn't like insects, apparently.
Abby's opinion is it's some kind of ant. Connor doesn't know of anything like it in the fossil records, so it's probably from the future.
Sarah locks the Anomaly over Connor's protests.
"You're not the only one who can press a few buttons."
"I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that."
"Really?"
"Beginner's luck."
Connor attempts to bond by telling her about his fear of zombies.
"Me? Terrified of being trapped in a shopping centre with brain-eating zombies. Can you imagine?"
"But that's unlikely to happen, isn't it, Connor?"
"I'm trying to work with you, woman. Help me out. Seriously, you're fine. You're safe. Nothing's coming through there."
The team head off, not noticing the insect left behind.
Jack searches Abby's bag, curious. She isn't happy about it. He asks about the Anomaly Detector and she brushes it off as a Sat Nav, which he doesn't buy.
Apparently he thinks she still works in the zoo.
Lester's practising Mandarin at home, ready for a private reception with the Chinese Ambassador. Connor attempts to hide the fact that both Lester's invitation and his jacket have been eaten by Nancy and/or Sid. Lester is Not Happy.
The guards on the Anomaly are playing cards at night. They hear a noise and, apparently unaware of genre conventions, brush it off as nothing. It comes again and they get up to look around, finding a pool of oil under a truck. One starts to call in, but he's eaten by a huge ant-thing before he can. The other hides for a bit before being eaten.
Abby gets ready for work. Jack stops her to try and pry into her job, but she blows him off. Once she's gone, Jack lifts her ADD from behind a cushion. Rex glares at him, but Jack goes off with it anyway.
Connor hooks the Artefact up to a piece of equipment that will turn it very gradually until the laser unlocks the map. He, Danny and Sarah watch avidly as it's turned on. Nothing happens.
Nothing continues to happen.
Danny gives up and wanders off, followed by Sarah.
Jack's followed the ADD to the race track. The guard stops him and he heads off before doubling back and breaking through the fence, with apparently very little effort.
Abby talks the others through the Giant Ant Thing.
It's big and gross. Also, it's covered in selenium, which was also all over the Artefact. Danny decides to take a hop through the Anomaly and have a look around.
Jack pulls up outside the garage. He heads inside and sees the very nice cars. While he's admiring them, a phone starts ringing and he picks it up.
Connor's on the other end, trying to get hold of the soldiers. Jack is completely unrepentant about stealing the detector, and brushes the whole thing off as an adventure until he sees the dead soldiers.
We can see, but he can't, the Baby Giant Ant Thing climbing out of the bodies. The mama Ant Thing chases him and he drops the phone, running for the car. Mama Ant Thing climbs on top and he drives around in circles to knock it free, accidently re-opening the Anomaly as he goes.
He steers through in and into the cliff side city, where he smashes the car into - something. A fallen statue? I think? Climbing out, he looks warily around.
An ARC Jeep speeds to the Anomaly.
Jack continues to look around, until he falls through a hole in the ground. And he is deeply mourned.
The team search the warehouse and don't find Jack, deciding he must have gone through. The Locker's been smushed. Danny tells Connor to fix it, but he refuses, citing a need to stay with Abby. Sarah volunteers to fix it; Connor rapidly talks her through it. Becker demands they wait for backup but Abby just walks through the Anomaly and Connor chases her. The other two follow them.
Becker saves Danny from falling off the cliff. The group head towards the buildings, looking around warily. They look around edgily, trying to guess how far in the future they are. Danny spots the car at the end of a street and they start towards it.
I do not understand this city. How did Jack get the car all the way down to the end of that street?
Suddenly, Predators! Becker shoots one that was sneaking up on Abby and they hustle off the street and undercover, where Becker and Abby snip at each other about making noise.
Connor rapidly explains Predators to Danny and Becker. Becker demands they go back for back up, but Danny weighs in on Abby's side and they carefully go on.
A baby Predator jumps Danny as he passes a car; he wrestles it off and crushes it in the door. Connor checks Danny's wound, which isn't too bad but is bleeding.
Abby takes the distraction to sneak ahead; she's almost eaten by an Ant Thing, but Becker gets there in time, bundling her through a nearby door. The others pile in after her.
There's another fight about going on vs going back; Danny has switched to Becker's side, and now Connor is in favour of going back, too. Broken by the lack of support, Abby rips him to pieces and storms out.
"You too?"
"I'm just trying to be reasonable."
"You've always hated him, haven't you? You'd be happy if he was dead!"
A few steps past the door she freezes as a Predator appears. Danny's a few steps behind her and she eases back to him, touching his chest to warn him the Predator can hear his heart beat.
Connor makes a lot of noise to distract it; he almost gets eaten, but Becker shoots it from hiding just in time.
Jack wakes up. He's stuck down a hole and his leg is trapped, so naturally he makes as much noise as possible. Giant Maggot Things are attracted by the noise.
Danny follows Abby despite her arguments. They make a deal.
"We go to the car. If Jack's there, great. If not, we go back, get support and start again. I will not give up on him, I promise."
Giant Maggot Things are trying to eat Jack, mostly by falling on him.
Danny and Abby reach the car. Jack's not there, but they can hear him yelling. They track it to a nearby building with a basement.
Connor and Becker catch up and Danny climbs carefully down into the basement. Jack is rude and unhelpful but Danny helps him out anyway.
Connor and Abby try to pull him up on a rope. Abby switches places with Becker to pull, but the Predators are advancing and he has to go back to guarding and let her pull.
"Whatever happens, just get them out of here. Good luck."
Becker runs away, yelling and firing his gun to draw the Predators. Danny scrambles out of the basement
"Don't leave me here."
"Just hang tight."
"You coward!"
and helps pull Jack out. Danny explodes the building to distract all the everything, and they run to hide in a bus and regroup.
Sarah resets the Locker, testing by closing and opening the Anomaly. She's very proud of herself.
Where did she get the bread and jam? She's all on her own there. Did she call for takeout, or is it part of the standard ARC lunch kit?
Jack is rude about everyone, especially Becker. Everyone gets mad, especially Abby.
"Where are we? How come it took you so long to get here? I mean, I was terrified."
"Becker sacrificed himself to save you and that's all you can say?"
"Who's Becker?"
"The man who took on a pack of killers to save you."
"So?"
"So?! He's dead and it's your fault!"
Then she hugs him.
They've been found. Danny spears a Predator through the roof, but there's more.
"Here are our options. We try and make a run for it, and they tear us to bits. Or we hold out here as long as we can, and they tear us to bits.
I never said they were good options."
Giant Ant Things, fleeing Danny's fire, surge up from underground and take on the Predators. The team take the distraction and make a run for it.
Along the way Danny sees Christine's Captain, Wilder, with a woman, but he can't get to them and they run off without seeing him.
Jack is actually taking cell phone footage while they run, the idiot.
Sure hope someone takes that phone off him afterwards.
Sarah's startled by a Baby Giant Ant Thing. She accidentally locks the Anomaly while fleeing.
The team reach the Anomaly but it's locked.
A Predator is gaining on them, bouncing from car to car; it's almost on them when Becker hits it from below and rises triumphant to grin at the team.
Sarah steels herself and catches the Baby Giant Ant Thing in a container, hastily opening the Anomaly. The team pile through and she hurls the container in seconds before Connor locks it up again.
Abby and Jack make up, more or less.
"Abby, what just happened?"
"If I told you Becker would have to kill you. He's already looking for an excuse. Maybe one day, just not now."
"I think it's time I moved out."
"Are you sure?"
"Living with you is dangerous!"
He also wants to talk to Abby about Connor. Very aware of Becker watching them, she takes him to one side.
Connor's working on something when Abby comes to stare at him for a bit. She tells him that Jack told her about Rex.
"You could have made Jack look really bad, but you didn't. Why?"
"I knew how much you loved him. I didn't want you to be hurt. Sorry."
"Even after I said all those horrible and unfair things about you hating him, you still kept quiet. You did all that for me."
Connor fumbles through attempting to declare his feelings, but Abby shuts him up with a kiss.
It's a good kiss.
Danny approves.
Later, Danny debriefs with Lester.
Lester tells him about the Anomaly they detected in Christine's building and decides to go through official channels, specifically telling Danny not to freelance. Danny agrees and wanders off to get cleaned up.
In Christine's building she and Wilder consider the woman, who seems to be sleeping off a sedative but is actually awake and listening and fingering her Conspicuous Pendant. And also, looking at the camera. Oooh-er, missus.
