My desktop is dead. Long live my desktop!

May 27, 2009 21:44

So over the weekend my long suffering desktop, The Precious, shuffled off to Mount Doom. Luckily I've been able to save most of the stuff off my hard drives (with the notable exception of my Star Wars folder, which had some ten years of fandom stored in it, sigh) so the loss isn't too profound ( Read more... )

Oh John Barrowman! Never change! (I really wish I could see him skate more!)

Yay for the new comp! I will be gleefully anticipating new vids :D

You should see the rest of the episode. That's his new show, Tonight's the Night. Which I guess is a show for 'making people's dreams come true.' It's very, very John Barrowman, if that means anything at all.

I had a SPN season four vid bunny hit me hard just the other day, so I'm hoping to strike while the iron is still hot there.

Wow, you were doing video editing on that computer? You must have been very patient, then... *remembers how long it took to boot up* It'll be a lot better with any new computer. You don't realize how much better extra cores are until you get a computer with more than one... What are the other stats on it?

Yeah, there hasn't been a whole lot of video editing for the past four years or so, if that tells you anything. The last couple vids I've done were pretty much exclusively done on my laptop, but I have been authoring Detour's AMV contest DVD on that thing and it's been a real pain. I'll be happy to get away from it.

The new computer which lacks a proper name will have the aforementioned 6GB DDR3 SDRAM, 8MB L3 Cache 2.66GHz Intel Core i7-920 Processor, and ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB video card, 750GB HDD. Although I'm going to need to pick up another internal hard drive sometime soon to put in there because 750GB will just barely fit all my stuff.

Well, there goes my award for having the fastest computer. Only had it for 6 months...

Yeah, that... is a huge leap. Nothing consumer-grade can keep up with an i7 unless you hardcore-overclock a Core 2 Quad. Assuming that you can get your AMV-making software working on Vista 64-bit (which is what I'm assuming you'll have since otherwise you're wasting half your RAM), you'll be on top of the world. Maybe that helps for finding a suitable name?

Well, at least I can give you High-Def anime now :D

Yay! The only problem with that being that I'll have to watch it on my desktop instead of my nice big TV, but oh well. I'll take it. :)

Seriously, I have got to figure out what kind of vendetta my laptop has against mkv files one of these days and why.

Alas, if only you had something to stream to like we have at our place, but of course that would require spending even more money on a second computer just for TV-watching purposes, and I doubt you want to do that.

Have Eric look at it your laptop sometime. He got the high-def files working on Alex's computer, he might be able to work with yours as well.

Maybe I'll come over a little early on a Sunday sometime and haul it with me. Thanks!

Speaking of Sundays, I'll probably won't be able to get those Utena remasters from you for another couple weeks now. I don't think I' have enough space left on my external to fit them until the new desktop arrives.

Seconding the call for "Oh, John Barrowman." We need to stage a kidnapping so American can have him, not Britain. He's too awesome :P Also new comp w00t.

We had him for a good chunk of his teenage years, but then we lost him. Sadness!
