On the ever-growing list of Shit That Annoys Xi:

This whole hot chick/tough girl thing that's been in vogue for a few years now. And what really annoys me is that so many women seem to think this is so great for the female image in Hollywood. This is why it annoys me: Nearly every woman you see who is in some kind of kick-ass role has a skinny ( Read more... )

I have great and profound Zoe love.

However, I have to quibble with your premise a little bit. My sister when she was about seventeen years old was 5'4" and weighed about ninety pounds wringing wet but rode in barrel races in the rodeo and could KICK ANYONE'S ASS. She once decked a linebacker and knocked him out cold.

However, she was also seventeen. She is still very strong and quick, but no longer teeny. GROWN women do not look like that, if they have a lot of muscle.

I'm writing a character into a story (deep-space murder mystery) who is a slightly plump, muscular engineer, and I'm going to make the point that the people around her find her sexy as hell because she is who she is, not because she fits some preconceived mold.

have you seen the cinderella story movie that came out like ten years ago - Ever After? The reason I mention it is because that movie gave me a new respect for Drew Barrymore. Apparently when she accepted the role, the producers asked her to lose twenty five pounds and dye her hair light blonde. She essentially told them to get bent, that Cinderella would be a normal-sized brunette who was sturdier than she was pretty or they'd get someone else to play her.

I kind of love that she did that.

SEX SELLS. Its all about the money. And what about the guys? If you're over weight a little, you get the shit kicked out of you on the screen. Little pretty skinny dudes, stomping ass on 250lb martial artists and such. Shit. Yeah, I'm short and a little over weight, and I've been hit in the head by a Volkswagon and walked away from it. Hel, I only blacked out for about 5 seconds. Then bench pressed the damn thing off of me.
Remember that sword cuts both ways, and both sexes.

Just gonna give you a *hug*, girlie, 'cause I hear where you're coming from and I'm surprised you've gotten so much grief, but maybe we just have that mind-meld and they don't read it right. :)

I'd like more of Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver from the Terminator and Alien era - wonder why that got knocked so far off the Hollywood track... guess it scared too many guys into thinking, oh, she probably *could* kick my ass. ;p

Michelle wants to turn me into Elektra this All Hallow's Eve... I'll post some pictures of me kickin' arse, for sure. ;)

Love you, Sweetie.

Ah, it's not really a lot of grief. I think I'm just doing a shitty job of getting my point across. Sometimes I write and the words just flow and i can say it perfectly. Other times it's like trying to weave spider's silk while drunk and wearing mittens. I hate it when I have a great idea to express but the words just won't come out right. It's very frustrating. Like trying to say a tongue twister with a mouth full of peanut butter, ya know? So it's easy for people to miss my point because, hell, it's not there for them to get! That and female body image is such a hot button for people and internet arguing and blah blah blah.

You will make a stunning Elektra, baby! Seriously. The first time I met you, you were dressed as Trinity from the Matrix and you looked *amazing*. Yowza!
