I was wondering where you'd gone. Yes, Sasha is still utterly awesome. Like you, I didn't know anything about her before R&I, which I only checked out based on Angie Harmon's cheekbones. But why abandon the fandom even if what makes it to air disappoints? Isn't that precisely why there's fanfic, to give us what we wish they would offer based on the characters they've established? I think it's when the show is less than satisfactory that we need our fic the most.
I should confess that my falling off the radar was initially a function of real life, but I dipped back in here at the beginning of Season 2, thinking that I'd quickly rediscover the pleasures of shipping. And it's clear that quality fan fiction continues to be written; I just am not inspired to try my hand at it myself, or to savor work of others the way I used to.
I've stayed active in fandoms where there was less (much less) subtext - think SVU - but the problem with R&I, for me, was that it gave us *so much*, and then squandered, in my mind, almost all the Jane/Maura gold it had produced. This wasn't the sort of "leaves us wanting more" scenario that inspired my muse last year; this was the sort of blow that knocked her out. It's definitely good that not everyone feels that way, though, and I'm pleased there is still a strong Jane/Maura fandom around.
I won't comment further on Sasha's awesomeness because you already did it wonderfully, but let me just say that I'M VERY HAPPY TO SEE/READ YOU AGAIN!!! I asked several people on Twitter if they had heard from you (to no avail). Finally I've learned that you're fine and that it was just life that led you away from the fandom. Well, it happens, but at least you're fine! =)
I enjoyed this post a lot. YAY FOR SASHA! And for you for doing this ;)
Oh, it's so lovely to see *you* again as well! I'm so touched that you were looking for me :-). Yes, life led me "astray," and then sadly the show itself kept me more or less away. I have missed the LJ community though, so I may dip back in and see if the second half of S2 warrants any renewal of my J/M or R&I enthusiasm.
Anyway, yes - yay for Sasha! Is she still active on Twitter?
Well, hello again! I was wondering where that little purple fish swam off to. I would love to see you finish "The Things We Don't Give Up", but I know it's hard to write once you've lost your love of the characters. I'm struggling a bit with my A/O shorts for a little of the same reason. I haven't had much time to write these days, but I'm also just not thrilled with characters like I used to be. This season is head and shoulders above the last few, but I still just don't see Olivia in the same light I used to.
Anyway, good to see you again, and hopefully the last 5 R&Is will be fabulous and get you in a writing mood again! Oh, and nice post about SA. :-)
Hello again to you too, sunsetwriter! So sorry it's taken me so long to reply; as I said, I'm rarely on LJ anymore. I did pop back in to see how the last ep was received, and I did enjoy the "I love you" declarations, but it's not enough to save the season for me. I feel bad about not finishing the fic - especially with such sweet encouragement from a faithful reader :-) - but it's looking very unlikely.
I've loved your A/O shorts for so long, which you managed to keep writing well past the golden A/O years on the show. It's good to hear that this year's SVU is much improved (anything to do with Kelly Giddish, who I miss on The Good Wife?), but I bet it can't really wipe out all the atrocious seasons.
Anyway, thanks again for stopping by to comment :-).
My A/O ship is still in the harbor, but I'm afraid it may be preparing to sail off into my sunset! This season, though MUCH better than the last few, has really done nothing to further the A/O relationship. If anything, they seem to have drifted further apart. I do like Giddish's Rollins character. I'm hoping we get to see more of her in future eps. It seems as though they are setting Liv up for retirement (or something) due to MH's wish to cut back her hours at work. I just wish they wouldn't destroy her character like they seem hell-bent on doing.
Don't even get me started on last nights R&I... ugh. I loved last week's show, but it seems they take one step forward and twelve steps back.
